I do most of my boating up that way since my buddy has a pad just downriver from the Avi in willow valley. Never stayed there but have hit up the 3.99 all you can eat spaghetti and meatballs;)
There are plenty of beaches, especially once you get down to around Topock. A lot of the beaches above Needles are Indian land so they say you need a permit:rolleyes: BUt I've never been hassled.
Oh yeah, the water levels go up and down a lot so if you have a big boat you may not want(or be able) to launch until after 10AM.

I love the place, especially with the wife/kids. The new hotel is nice, the beach/lagoon is clean, they have a gas dock, a store for beer/ice...the launch ramp is decent, and of course my favorite, the buffet...crab legs on Friday night..already cut in half !!! IMO you don't have to leave the place - they have everything. And on the big holidays, you can order a couple pizzas and anchor in the lagoon for the fireworks display. The store has tons of fireworks too !! I'll be making reservations for July 19-23...should be fun !

Avi was one of my favorite places to stay. Like others have said, it pretty much has it all. As far as beaches, go upriver a couple miles, and the AZ side has some nice beaches. Go a little further up, and you can beach your boat at Lazy Harry's and have a cocktail, too. the 4th of July will be a trip this year. It'll be the first time I'll have the boat out at night.

My only drawback to the AVI is the casino....It just don't pay well and the cocktail waitresses are slow....
There are some very nice beaches if you go down to Park Moabi...
If the river is up head upriver about 5-6 miles and hit Lazy harrys for a beer and burger...:D

Some advice...bring a spot light...the river is damn dark at night....If you go up to the casinos at laughlin for their fireworks show try to anchor by other boats that are anchored!! Too many boats just keep idleing back and forth and the exhaust smell really gets to you after awhile...

Here's a couple shots
Here's the inlet. Lazy Harry's is to the left. Nice little local ramp right there.

You can beach your boat and walk up to LH.

My place is up by the opening to the inlet. I have to walk about 15 houses to LHs :D

Harry's is in Bullhead on the AZ side....about 5-6 miles upriver from the AVI...Look for the large display of American and Vietnam War flags, the inlet is near there...There is plenty of area to beach your boat...cold beer, good burgers and the kamakazis ain't bad either!!

AZ side, no signs. Take the 2nd inlet at the Memorial Flags. If you see the pipeline, you've gone too far.

You have to be careful here, I've come back to a mud hole and my trailer in the parking lot:(

If you look real close at the first shot, you'll see a boat left in overnight
You're right, if you don't know the flows, you can wind up knee deep in mud and hung over to boot.
Pays to know the river........

What time does the water go down? I've always been off by 8PM and it's still been up. I've got a jet but still don't want to push it:eek: Seen the effects of people beaching overnight and don't want to be one of them;)

Here's the discharge data from Davis. Generally speaking , the river will rise with increased electrical demand. I used a four day window to show the fluctuation better. Note the drop off from midnight to 6am, but it is different on the weekends than weekdays. Not much fun after midnight.....

whats the average room rate at the Avi? With the new boat we would like to go there or Laughlin and check out that part of the river. I am assuming that the Jetboat will be alright on that section of the river?

I have reservations for August and paid (I think) $105 a night for a river view king.
Watch the current there is very strong, if you are docking.
Water levels go up and down.(My neighbor tells me there is a schedule for this)
:D
