The Lavey was running VERY strong after sitting all summer. This was the first trip out. Filled her up with 91 octane and added some octane booster. It ran like a champ about 7 trips around the lake. Then, poof...It stalled. We checked to make sure a plug wire hadnt fallen off the distributor again, nope. Then all of the sudden the wires started flaming from under the boat, I quickly ripped the fire extinguisher off and put it out. There is a short somehwere and now I need to find it. Just in time for summer, terrific. I was hoping that with a new 750 Holley it would run tops this summer, but as we all know it is always something.
Got the opportunity to lay the smackdown on some jet with a 454, tunnel ram and dual carbs...it was pretty easy.

No offense, but if you didn't have a sufficicent fuse or circuit breaker system in place to prevent that, then you should have the thing rewired properly. Wiring is one thing you just don't poorly engineer in a boat.
Fiberglass + Fire = NOT GOOD!!!!!:eek!:

Ducky: You are right and it is a lesson. The plans for a nice fuse box are in the works.
HalletFlatbottom: Yes, as long as you have mufflers. :)

D,sorry to hear that. wireing is such a bitch. I don't think ducky realizes that your boat is original. Their are some boating sites that have basic diagrams available for nadda. My father in law wired my Lavey. later.....v-drive

yeah, the wiring is old style. Do you happen to know of any of the sites? that would be great. Did you get a chance to take your Lavey out yet? I am curious to know how it runs with that motor. Also, please take some pics! :)

D, I still have all of the paperwork in a file, ofcourse it's in a box in the garage. I haven't tried the boat yet and I want to have it setting in the water before I take any more pictures.I to am looking forward to seeing what this motor will do as it has alot of love in it. when It was in the other boat(a jet) it was quite healthy. I will e-mail you the info tonight......V-drive

Wow, Thanks a ton, I will save this on my computer when I get home, that makes it look easy. Now running and tucking the wires is the only hard part.
Thanks again...

Your picture is neat, however the RED WIRE from the starter solenoid to the key switch has NO BREAKER! Where is the "fuse/ breaker" for the ENTIRE wiring system? Keeping things simple is most important, vibration and 'rubbing thru' are common problems with boat wiring. Also, use larger wire than is normally used with the current loads.

I took a second look, you have NO FUSES anywhere. Try putting some in your circuits, and you may like it!

Here are some of the B & H Performance Boats that were out there, they were testing them for potential customers. The guy said they do about 80mph. I have never heard of B & H...
