Looks like a small office server to me, but I am no expert. It is a pretty fast computer, but nothing super special, and not a lot of hard drive...

Yes, used. Are you sure on the price? I have no idea.

I'd bet more like 1500... one way to see what market rates are for those things is to look on good ol ebay!

I probably would be hard pressed to find a similar one. IE: same parts.
I can get this one for $850, it would be mostly a file server in a 3 person office.

Good deal, I'd add a hard drive or two though, even for a 3 person office. But it looked like it was a small office server to me... having worked in a lot of small offices...

That's a nice case and excellent PSU but the 36GB Raptors are loud as hell. It's too bad becaue that system could be almost silent without the Raptor.

My personal machine has 2 raptors in RAID 0. Yes, it is loud.

The 72GB Raptors aren't nearly as loud and I'm told they've redesigned the 36GB so we'll be seeing quieter 36GB Raptors soon too.
Fast drives. I need silence, though. :)

as far as the hardware goes heres what I dug up in new prices
Antec SLK3700 AMB $58
MSI 865G NEO2-$107
1 gig Crucial DDR 3200 $ 218
Western Digital 36GB raptor $126
Seagate 80GB HD ST380011A $ 101
Lite-On 48x24x48x16 CDRW/DVD $ 53
3com 10/100 nic $35
total. $698 thats just the hardware .
the software is the kicker .
just the 2003 server is arround $700 ballpark
if you get the original CDs of the software
then it would be a great deal IMHO
Jump on it quick before it gets away !
