From what I understand, 2 bolt main blocks are OK up until about 700 horse than it gets risky. Most people want to make as much HP as possible but in your case what are you looking to get out of this motor.

if you are worried about the strength of the 2 bolt, you could always have it drilled for 4 bolt caps

convert the 4 bolt. Pat, do you need some 990 heads? i will be in your area in a few weeks if you do.

If you have a 2 bolt now, use splayed caps don't use factory caps they will walk with a blown motor, also with factory caps that extra bolt hole removes material out of the main web!. eek!

nothing real wild. this is my first attemp at a blower engine so i want to check all my bases.
chris how much are you asking for the heads?
is there a difference in cranks ie. steel of not?
pistons? and rods. thanks for all the help guys.

$500. The 990 castings... i will be in your area in the sac. delta for the first few days of august if your interested. They will most likely need a valve job as they have hours on them, They come with crane roller rockers too. If your interested let me know. Thanks

That is a pretty good deal on the heads. From the peanut gallery, I would have the 2 bolt block drilled out to accept four bolts.

you should be fine with that block you have after being converted. last i heard hbjet had some really nice rods and a brand new crank as well. I dont really know of any blower pistons though, i will check around.

Pat,
Give DW a call with Engine Rebuilders Warehouse. You will find the number on the LBBA discounters list.
Although it's still under construction, you can check out their website at FastEngines.com (http://www.fastengines.com)

thanks pat(slotracer) :D Is you're two bolt an early block?, if it is it would be a lot cheaper to convert yours than to buy one, besides then you could use splayed caps and have a good stout bottom end!...

I would sonic check your block before you put anymore money into it. As for the 990's, this are bitchin heads for the money. I run a pair that have been gone through.
Here is a side by side photo with one of my 990's after they where gone through and a stock 990.

Pat, your porting money can be better spent. On a blower motor, the porting doesn't help as much as on a normally aspirated engine.
Just what I've been told...

well good luck ..but let me tell you and im talking from experence dont get cheap on your parts your heads may be nice but your block is your foundation for your power plant ,i did the same thing and i used a stock 4 bolt main ,and i ran i hard and it had started to crack from the stress of the power ..so the extra thousand bucks will save you the headache in the long run buy a dart block .......
