View Full Version : Safe place for kids in LHC

Lets say that there was a place in LHC down by the restaurants and channel area that you could feel safe leaving your kids for well supervised sitting/activities.
You could drop them off and run to the Sandbar for a while or go out for a nice adult evening after a day on the lake. What would be a reasonable fee on an hourly basis that you would be willing to pay for said service.
A friend of mine is thinking about this idea and needs to furthur explore the financial aspect and I have no ides what a "babysitter" costs these days.
I would think that he could also be partially subsidized by the restaurant owners who would rathar have an adult spending time occupying a seat buying drinks and a nice meal rathar than a kid eating a "happy meal" and then doing that impatient thing causing the adults (spenders) to bail.
Thanks

I would guess $7-$10 per hour per kid would work.

Maybe you can check into a "Kids Quest" franchise. They have one at The AVI and another at the Palms in Vegas and they are the greatest things for kids and of course allowing the parents some free time. It is like a Chuck E. Cheese on steroids and they feed them too. I think it turned out to be like $6 per hour per kid, not including food. "Git R Done" !!!

That woul dbe a great rate.. Our afterschool program charges us 16.00 per kid per day.. No food.... Lots of great learning games, though..

Great idea, those are at lots of casino's here in town. We used to drop the kids off there once in a while so we could catch a movie or a quiet dinner.

It would be great to know that they'd be well supervised by responsible licensed adults, but what will they do when a buzzed parent gets off the lake to pick them up? Are they going to keep the kid (s) if they party doesn't have a designated driver?

No kidding. Not sure I want my kids hanging all day with kids of some of the parents have seen at the river anyway. Personally I would not drop my kid and head to the sandbar anyway. Maybe not even dinner as I just use a babysitter. You get a call your kid is freaking out or hurt and you are out on the lake and have to get back to the ramp and pullout etc?
As Insman says the AVI Kids Quest is great, my kid loves it, but they have a captive audience and you need to stay on the grounds I believe. He goes in while we gamble for 2 hours max. With insurance costs, seasonality of the river, and start up cost to do it right combined with what you can charge, I'm thinking there's a whole better way to make a buck

while it is a great idea i think havi is not the place for it...most real boaters boat to have family fun and most of us want memories for our kids......i feel if you bring them to havi then you should enjoy life with them not stick them in some babysitting club and gone all day.........while i think it works in some places when kids may not be allowed (casinos) havi is a family place......i'm not trying to bust your bubble, but rather offer a flip side of the coin.....just my $.02 cents but who cares anyway

If you bring the kids to Havi, it's family time.
If you need adults only fun, leave 'em at home with grandma.
Just my .02.....
I would NEVER leave my kids w/strangers, only family.

So....we have "real boaters" that would never leave their kids and we have buzzed parents who shouldn't pick them up after drinking it up on the lake. Limited cross section of the boating community if you ask me. :)

I would not drop my kids off anywhere when I'm out there, but I think it would be cool if there was a place they could go play for a while if they got bored of sitting in the channel all day.

But all our friends do and if they left their kids at a babysitter I'd smack em a time or two. I guess we're all just family oriented. That's what it's all about! :)
