Thanx Racing Ray, I changed out the Fram filter ( oil pressure was dropping from 55 to 40 ) installed AC Delco, pressure @ idle 60, wot 80 psi.

In my experience, Fram's are junk. I switched to Purolator Pure One filters and they are way better. My oil stays cleaner longer.

I use Baldwin 279 oil filters for BBC's. You might want to check them out sometime.

Who carries the Baldwin filters? I rather run anything but a Fram but Fram seems to have the market locked up.

Just to throw a wrench into the discussion... I have been using K&N filters for the last couple of years, and their design appears to be very solid. I get a lot of pressure, and when I pull the filter apart to inspect after break-ins and intervals it has a nice staggering of the material, and the last layer (the smallest) is always clean. I have never had any oil-restriction related problems, and do dig the brand. These are available at Kragen in California, or whoever they call themselves across the nation for around $10.00

They had this debate about Fram filters on the offshoreonly site a while back. There seems to be differing opinions about them. I do know that a lot of reputable engine builders, and several offshore race teams run them. It seems that oil change intervals and operating temperatures have a lot to do with realiability. my.02.

boatnam, we shop at the same place! I wounder who has spent the most? I know i have racked up some pretty steep bills with sherri. I've also helped pay for some of Georges latest bus. Have you seen Sherri's sons jr. dragster? That a bad ass peice. I feel sorry for the other kids racing against him.
058, you can get them from Rex also.

Thanks S-Dave...around here [Bay Area] Fram has a lock on the market for filters. Tough to find another brand with the major suppliers. Guess I'll have to check out the back street stores.

hey superdave,i got some hefty bills from there, but those days are over well for now they are just bought 29 ft warlock with stock 496 ho.im going to try and be happy with a 65 mph boat for awhile.i done the 100 mph thing for three years it was fun,but want to start using the ocean.yea it would be great to have a grandpa like george if you liked racing sherri's kids are lucky.

boatman2, Yeah right, I give one or maybe two seasons and then that 496 will be out of there and a 573" blown George special will be going in!
058, you can mail order them from Rex Marine or Sherri will be glad to send you some. They are much better filters with thicker cans and a built in high pressure by-pass. Once you run one you'll never go back!

Thanks again S-Dave, I run Baldwin filters on my Kenworth, I can go thru the KW dealer in Oakland for a list of suppliers that carry the car filters, its just that every time I think of getting filters its more of an afterthought so I settle for the Frams...Gotta get outta that habit. How is the boat comming? Did you figure out how to mount and plumb the Superchiller intercooler yet?

Ask and ye shall receive! Called the Kenworth dealer about retail suppliers and turned out that they are. Bay Area Kenworth stocks almost all Baldwin filters made. Price pretty good too @ $3.91 ea. I ordered a case of 12.

hey 058,went to change oil in the boat today, got the wrong filter from clay smith,so i went and got a fram it wasn't a hp but there is no comparison plus i called george and baldwin has a sleve in it to keep the filter from collapsing.

Boatnam2, I used to think a Fram was better than nothing but now I'm beginning to wonder.

hi 058,i think fram is good for a stock application,i used the hp series on my hot rod and is was good but after looking a one next to my baldwin i wouldn't put it on my boat.i put the old one back on until i can get a baldwin.which will be today.

058, 3.91 is a steal for them. I have found then for 5.00 but they don't like selling them to us everyday people.
MKEELINE, I have never used a system 1 filter. About the turbo deal, haven't had any time to work on it latley. I spend so much time working on everyone elses stuff, no time left for me. Oh well, gotta pay the bills.

I have used the System 1 filter for years with no problems. When I first started looking at what it picked up, it spooked me, but I later learned what to look for. They have saved several engines for me with an early diagnosis of bearing failure on a drag engine.

I switched to system 1 filters on my blown 632ci bbc in a jetboat and have pretty much forgotten about them. I have switched all my customers engines that I built from a fram to system 1 as well. I have found out that FRAM is producing a series of filters designed JUST for racing engines. I am told they are designed to handle extremely high oil preasures. I will provide a part number as soon as I get it.
