I recently pulled my pump and took it do Jack at MPD for some work in hopes to break the 68.9mph gps "wall" that my boat was hitting. I wasn't running a loader and the boat would run hard up to that numper and cavitate. The pump was rebuilt last year by somebody that was recommended to me by Teague. This guy used to have a shop but because of his regular job he closed it down but still did pumps on the side. To make a long story short, I got screwed. Many things were done incorrectly and half assed on my pump. Lesson learned. So Jack tells me my bowl is really restrictive due to it being an old style Dominator that wont work well with my application. I tell Jack, "Do what ever you think will benefit me I just want it to be right!" The bowl was opened up and detailed, he removed a lot of material to make it flow better. I don't have a before shot because I'm a jackass but here is an after shot.

He also detailed the MagBronze impeller. I never got pics of it out of the pump but here is before in the pump.

and after in the pump. It's hard to tell any change besides the color due to polishing but the surfaces are smoother and the edges are sharper.

Next came the loader but first we had to get the old rock grate out that was stuck in. With the aid of a blow torch, hammers, punches, a floorjack and a bug ass screwdriver, Jack got the bolts out like nothing. I spent about 45 min trying to get them out on my own and Jack got it done in about 15.

To get ready for Freeboard, I had a list of things to do since the boat was all ripped apart. One was new Seat brackets. When I bought the boat the seats were held in by woodscrews through the top of the stringer and sat on the plywood bases. The system sucked and needed fixing.

New Aluminum brackets. I drilled the plates and tapped them so the seat bases would bolt directly on. It works great.

Next was a pressure regulator which I don't have pics of. But works wonderfully. And a lot of polishing since the motor was out and easy to get too.
After many hours of running here and there for parts and trying to get it all together in a few days to make Freeboard it all worked out. I got the pump back last Thursday and just got it done and tested today.
Motor ready to go in.

So I got it all done today and got it tested up at Castaic.
The boat has a 454 running 492 hp and 561lbs of torque. It would not go faster than 68.9 gps with droop, diverter, magbronze A imp, (was supposed to be an A/B credit that to the guy who Teague recommended) no shoe no rideplate. After Jack worked the bowl and impeller, cut the impeller down to an A/B and added the loader, the boat ran 76.4 gps today. Am I happy? Hell yeah!! Do I wish I would have taken the pump to Jack in the first place? Hell yeah!!! Am I ready for Freeboard? Hell yeah!!!
Can I get a Hell yeah???? :D :D

Oh, don't even get me started... I'm at the bottom of the DNE HP Chart for this weekend. I have the oldest DNE motor in the group, and now its the lowest on power.... I need NOS.... Yeah, one of the big ones.... you know what, make it two. And Dave, I need it by tonight! (before I leave for FBC) haha!

What were your before and after rpm's?

Before was 5200rpm and now is right around 5100. I think the drop is because of the loader. Jack said I may gain about 200rpm from having the impeller cut down but I might not see it with the loader. I don't have the dyno sheet handy but I think the motor made peak torque around 48 or 4900.

youre telling me. I got the same if not more power in a tunnel hull and i barely pulled the crush by about 2mph:( something is screwed up though cause it is making all sorts of growling nosies. it should be faster. it rides a hell of a lot better though:cool:

Congrats!! Jack is THE man when it comes to pumps. Glad to see that you picked up the MPH you were looking for, but sorry that you had to go through what ya did to get it there. But that's life...We learn from mistakes.
Good luck with the boat and congrats again.

Yeah...ditto here. I could use a good pump overhaul but need to save the nickels and dimes. How many nickles and dimes I don't know.
