If you get just the right mixture of diesel in the gas it can do more than just knock. Some kid at a car wash put diesel in one of my friend's Corvette (I guess he was used to seeing us in a diesel pickup and didn't think much about it). He only put 1/4 tank or so into it. Ran fine for a while and then pretty much shit the bed. We changed fuel filters, added dry gas and some other fuel treatment thinking it was just a bad tank of gas. Then when that didn't help we started thinking about other possibilities and smelled the gas cap. Yep, smelled like diesel. Pulled all the plugs in the engine and all the electrodes were melted down. The mixture was just right that the gas ignited the diesel and things got really hot in the cylinder.
Still not as bad as gas in a diesel engine though. :D

Maybe Marine Power should read how Terrible's is going to handle it. ;)
"Sean Higgins, council for the company, said a trucking contractor from Las Vegas erroneously pumped a truckload of diesel into the station’s unleaded gasoline Tuesday.
He said the company would accept responsibility for the error and pay for repairs on the vehicles affected by the diesel.
“Obviously it is up to us to take care of it,” Higgins said. “We will clean up the cars.”

The really bad ones were back before they had electric injection pumps. In the day of the mechanical inj pump there was no way to shut the engine off, they basically ran as high as it would rev until it blew up....gnarly
