Blown 472:
That kicks ass, nice little surge to it. That surge bit us as a maiden voyage bug to work out. I had reduced it quite a bit when we shot that video.
I had leaned the idle down on the hose to reduce the surge. It was really bad. Put it in the water and the tips are under when the boat is not on plane. It would not idle. Was too lean. Brought every tool known to man except a screwdriver. Had to play with it to get on plane and borrow a screwdriver when we got to our destination.
It will have to surge like crazy on the hose from now on.

That setup should never surge. We had a 572ci 3.3 quad on the dyno last week, big hyd roller cam, idled at 800 with no problem, could've brought it down if needed.
Something is wrong in the carb setup or timing.
Thanks,
Dustin

Dustin - It has the lightest springs on the MSD centrifugal advance. That is probably causing it. It does not surge much with the tips under water.
Not complaining about it. It sounds cool and does not hurt anything. wink

I dought that it's the springs in the centrifical advance, I'll put my money on the tips being in the water, that's just like sticking mufflers in the pipes, making it fatter!. Besides with a blown motor, you gotta have that surge, nothing sounds better!..Just my .02.. :D

Yea the surge sounds cool. :D
Probably not if you are the manufacturer and spent R&D dollars on a bypass system to prevent it.
I tuned the idle on the hose too lean. It would not idle when we put the tips in the water. Pop out the intake. Classic sign of too lean. A quick adjustment of the 8 idle mixture screws fixed it right up. wink after we came up with a screwdriver. hard to do after you are pushed off the trailer. Thought that was funny.
