Just talked to Ervin Capps about it. He used to have a set of the originals, and said that Youngblood sold off 3 sets of molds. One set to Don Pasterini, one set to Jimi Dominick, and one to someone else, I can't remember. Anyway, he said that all of those Origianl sets were grey on the inside. Youngblood kept a set also.
He will look at them and let me know, but said that it's been splashed many many times, and that most the top doesn't fit the bottom worth a shit. Even one set of the originals didn't fit well, but he will take a look and let me know about them.

It looks like it has pattrens on the sides of the mold this might mean it has gell in it and it never got glassed.

no some of the older molds they put a starter target in it to go off of when they masked the target or in some cases they did put the target in it to make it easeyer to mask and so they would all be close to the same..those things look beat to me but could be fixed up ok i guess with a lot of color sanding and buffing... just my 02 worth

well on the plug to make the mold you would wax the hell out of it and in worst case spray pva mold release and then spray the gell coat and then glass it and then you have a mold.In some cases as stated you lay a starter target as they did back in the day before all the fancy gell work and that is why you see the targets in the mold.

I thought we had established that.

when is the last time any of you guys ever saw a prod. mold without casters?
come to think of it...when was the last time any of you guys ever saw a prod. mold with a laminating flange at 1.5" in width?
something smells just a bit fishy!
P.S. you dont see many prod. molds layed up with a red gel either! (anymore that is!)
just my opinion though!

I might be going out on a limb, but those are not the original molds. As long as I worked for him, he never had a mold that had tooling gel in it. Jim doesn't like tooling gel. It is too hard to repair. The last set of TX19 molds went to OK.
I'll have to show this to him..... I'm sure he will be amused!!!!! ;)
