I didn't buy gas but I'm pretty sure my taxi driver did. Is that OK?
This doesn't apply to home gas too does it??

I need to fill up a work truck every day.One day will not make a difference IMO you still need to buy gas sooner or later and the gas companies KNOW THAT .You might have a full tank but it will go empty the next day or two

I wonder if the one day no sale will even make a difference to them?

Ntwotrance
05-18-2004, 07:05 PM
won't make a bit of difference to them, and I'm sure they would pay us back with higher rates....so, the question before you is fill up or walk....hmmm...fill up and drive to work, or walk, or even take the bus....ummm...there's a no brainer..

I thought they were the same company?

If you buy a gallon of milk every Monday from a huge grocery chain, do you think it would matter if you came in on tuesday instead? If you go about your normal driving routine tommorow, then you will have to buy the gas eventually. It doesn't matter when. The way prices have been going it will cost you .02 more on thursday than it would have on wednessday. So just fill up and take it on the chin.

What about making a statement?

Kachina26

Write a letter, it won't interfere with your day and will do as much good.

Yeah, too bad this boycott will make absolutely no dent in the prices we pay at the pump. It might work if we stopped for a week or two....but we love our cars and trucks too much to do that!!

I agree, making a statement would be great if we could. We will need gas sooner or later and they know that. So they can hold out longer than us. Alternative fules or transportation would be the best way to do that.

I started car pooling to work about 2 weeks ago so my mileage has basically doubled.:) we all need to take steps like this rather than boycotting one day. cutting consumption will work:cool: I wonder if I could tow my boat with a Focus???
I know my boat will spend more time on the beach this summer than it did last summer. I know prices are bad here in Houston with regular hanging around $1.80. I can only imagine what you west coast guys are paying:eek:

$1.80:eek!: :eek!: How the hell do you survive??????????? We were paying that before all this started and about now I would give my eye teeth to pay that again as I drive over 100 miles round trip. The other day I put $30 in my Hyundai, I didn't think that was possible without opening the trunk. I'm paying $2.27 and that's cheap compared to the coast.

I think it is $2.87 here in Alta Loma. The Gas stations near the freeway cost more, as do the major chains. I use 76. Costco has really cheap gas, but was very crowded, and everyone there was grumpy....I fill up about once a month as I drive 3 miles to work each day, grocery store, about 4 miles, I don't put a lot of miles on my car, until we go to the river!;)

this time last year it was about $1.25 a gallon here. I think I still have the receipts. I know $1.80 is no where near what you guys are paying but it still sucks if you figure we were paying 1.25 12 months ago. cheap gas may explain all the pickups and urban assault vehicles (SUV) in Texas. I wonder what this will do to the large vehicle market and more important to the american v-8. I think it was said earlier that the prices will drop dramatically just before election to help sway the sheople.
What bush should do is open the national reserve to the market and screw OPEC. I am trying to do my part by carpooling to work.:)

I know the one day boycott logic seems to be flawed, but the 2 times we have done it out here, in a well publicized way, gas prices did drop a very short time later. It might just have been coincidence, but then again....

I must live under a rock or something because I didn't hear anything about the boycott until I was on my way to the gas station this morning. Ooops. $2.31/gallon! Ouch!! :yuk:

I was going to get gas today for my car, but I have enough in my tank to wait until tomorrow, so I will wait, futile gesture or not.

If you really want to make a statement pick a routine that you have followed for a long period of time and quit doing it. If everyone could take 50 or 75 miles per week out of their travels you might make a statement. At the very least you would save yourself a few bucks. If several million people quit driving 50 miles per week you would honestly affect their pocket book. Assuming people get 15 miles per gallon and pay 2.20/gallon it would at the retail level eliminate 7.3 million dollars/week in gas sales. Not buying for a day doesn't really eliminate any sales just moves them around/.
