That's the dowel that aligns the flexplate right?

You also need two woodruff keys!..

The woodruff keys,(halfmoon) are for the front of the crank, the dowel is to align the flexplate/flywheel bolts. You really don't need the dowel pin, it just makes it eaiser to find the right clocking for the bolt holes........Even though the clocking is critical with an externally balanced engine, the holes will only line up one way....Moneypitt

It also keeps a load off the flywheel bolts!..
