I'll be there also........and yes I would say get there early. It doesn't open until noon, but if you want a spot at the dock, I would arrive around 10-1030 that mornig. I'd rather get there early than to have to swim in. Which I had to do a couple of times. If the weather is nice, it will be one hell of a party.:D

Not really sure either, just watch for the cops.......I know if you try to use it on the dock at the Lost Isle, they won't let you. You kinda have to be discreet with the alcohol.:D

Yo can not bring it on the Island, however, if you beach in front of the volleyball court, you can have it on you boat and they can't say shite! Drink all you want on your boat or in the watter. But do remember the cops are the biggest assholes there. The ride around on Seadoo's so you can't really spot them. They won' t bust you for the beer bong, but if they see you hop in your boat and rip off, you may get a DUI. I saw that last weekend.

Sorry to hear that. Never met anyone that has happened to. Do they treat it like a DUI in a car. Or is it just a ticket?
Just curious...

My situation was like this.
Memorial day weekend, on Saturday. Loaded up the boat with
freinds food & beer. Launched the boat at Verona Marina on the
Sac river north of the Airport. The plan was to cruise the river that
day, and make a trip down to Crawdads. About a 12 mile journey
one way. I had 4 beers on the way down to our destination.
Crawdads. No problem, cops everywhere. I was completely aware
of the fact that they could bust your but. So we cruised up the
American River shut down to eat lunch and sip a couple more
beers. Ok, so I'm about 7 beers now. So we dock at Crawdads
and have 1 more beer. That makes 8 in about 6 hours. So we
leave Crawdads and start to head back to Verona. We'll, I'm in
my opinion, clear of the end of the dock. "The 5mph zone" So I
throttle up. We'll Johnny law inforcement, with his binoculars.
Sitting up the river, Decides I broke the law and I was making to
big of a boat wake in the 5mph zone. I explained that I had been
clear of the 5mph zone before I throttled up. After talking calmly
back and forth he decides it's shake down time. Everything
seemed to be cool, he seemed like he was going through the
motions. Then the beer questions. Well, with a ice chest in the
boat and a bunch of people, it was kind of obvious that we all
had a beer or two. So he starts with me, the driver. Pulls out his
hand held breathalizer and says blow into this. I asked...what if
I refuse. He replies.. then we take you down, and you take the test at
the police station. So, by this time I figure there's a good chance I'm
screwed. So I blow in the breathalizer and blow a .09.
All most passed. But, there is no almost. So I explain we have a
12 mile journey back to Verona and we just want to get back.
Him and his partner have a little huddle and decide, nope your
going down. So I had to get in there boat, put on handcuffs and
take a ride. Police car meets me at the dock and takes me down
town. By time I get down there and retest I blow a .06 under the
limit. So the bastards right me a ticket for reckless boating. Then
let me go. Now, go to court, The judge says, your charged with
wreckless boating. How do you plea. I said, under what basis.
He says let me see....looks at the report and says...you were
intoxicated. YOUR GUILTY HOW DO YOU PLEA. I plea. No
contest. He says....That will be $500.00 dollars.
And that's how it goes down.
Good luck and watch out.

FU*K! Sorry to hear that. That is such BS, these 12 yr old cops with a badge and a gun think they are such hot shit. What has the boating world come to? No drinking beers on a hot summer day, mufflers, what next, no G Strings.
If you still blew a .09 would that go on your DMV record as a DUI?
FOCKERS!!!!
By the way, what is the place to launch just south of 80 off the 5. It is a large park I think. And just down river there is a large beach area. A small river comes off it and ther is a bridge there. I remember that place, but cant remember how to get there.

Just my opinion, they were out to bust someone, and they did it.
It just happen to be me. And yes, they were cool until the end.
Then I was pissed. What f uckers is right. They made $500.00
bucks off of me for nothing.
That sounds like Discovery park your talking about. Either that or
Miller park. There both big enough to launch your Cat. Just watch
for sand bars at Miller park. It can get real crowded and lots of
brainless people there. That's why the cops are asses. Just keep
your heads up and you'll be fine.;)

Hey Hardcore..........where is the best place launch up that way. Im comin up sunday from Walnut Creek to Sac. I've never boated up there, so whats the best place 2 do that have some fun????

IMO, the best place to launch is at Garcia Bend just off I-5 and Pocket Road....af few miles north of the Laguna exit. It's a small ramp, but no launch fee and doesn't seem to get very crowded...at least not when I've launched there. From there it's a good cruise up to Old Town for lunch & cruise/float back down.
my $.02
Have fun.

All I remember is launching at a park and about 100 yards down stream is a beach area. Great for families. Easy to get to off hwy 80. It is NOT Disco Bay. All I remember is coming up hwy 80 taking the 5 south and maybe the 1st exit off 5 south...
Shite, I cant rememeber, it has been about 5 yrs. Any other areas you recomend, having a couple families and kids. That is why the beach area was appeling...

You may be talking about launching out of Ladd's Marina in Stockton?
I'll be at the Lost Isle on Sunday. I'm doing Lake Berryessa on Saturday. Hopefully, I won't have a broken boat on Sunday!

If you take Hwy 80 to 5 South and get off on the 1st exit, that's
Garden Hwy. Then you buzz under the freeway to Discovery park.
"launch ramp, big park & lots of parking" It can get really busy
there. Especially on Memorial day & Labor day weekends.
I like to take my family to the beach and kick it in the sand also.
If you take Hwy 80 and go 5 North for about and hour and drop
in the river up there, there's lots of beaches. It's not a big party
though. Way more laid back. there's one or two beaches that
get crowded but that's about it.

They Raped you of $500. It seems they are getting more paticular about 5mph wake zones around the marinas these days.
EVERYONE BE CAREFUL.
In case no one has noticed, the state, county & city municipalities are short of money. Guess who there targeting to make up the diffrence?
Thats right, you & me, they figure we have all of this discrecionary income to go boating, that there coffers need some of our money!

That's the place. It just seemend like a good place to hang with the family. Where are the other beaches you mentioned? I hav never traveled north from that point. What is the area called, I am always looking for new places to boat/hang with the family. A beach is critical as we have two little kids that need to run and gig!:D :D

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT. Even though I was in Sacto, it was Yolo Co.
cops that hauled me in. The judge was a freeking Nazi. He
insisted I was guilty and then asked me "How do you plea".
I sure wasn't going to get a lawyer and fight it.
That was a $500.00 dollar day on the water.
You know what else sucks, is that I just bought a $325.00 prop
for my boat two weeks before that.
So make it a $825.00 dollar weekend on the water. +gas +beer
+food +launch fees. F uck, make it a $1000.00 dollar day!
What the hell.

As "Hardcore-ski" readily attests to, the Sacramento metro area including the American river is a hotbed of law enforcement being that the Sacramento river is both a county and city division line. On a big weekend within a few mile streach you will see Sacramento Co , Yolo Co. West Sac police, Sacramento Police, The Coast Guard both regular and Auxillary, Fish and Game, Etc all with at least one boat in the water and some with jet skies. And to top it off all the big boats in every marina that you pass or see on the river have a direct line to law enforcement via their VHF radios. Don't do anything wrong!!!!!! Marine Law enforcement monitors Ch 16. I've had a houseboat on a outside tie at Crawdads and Sushi on the river for over 12 years and I won't take it out on a big weekend. I sit back and watch one idiot (not you Hard-core obviously) after another get hauled off the river. I personally have never used my VHF to call in any ***boaters. They usually are going fast up on plane as to not make much of a wake. It's the weekend "trailer sailers " in their Bayliners digging a hole at 12mph or some kid in dad's V-drive Wakeboard boat with the bladders full thinking we need a ski show at 50ft off the dock. I've been on the river long enough to know Mother Nature in her winters fury can cause way more damage than a wake. Sounds like a crummy place to boat.............but actually it is preety awesome during the week. Great beaches, clear water (in the American), smooth water for skiing, and great fishing.

Coming back into Verona on any holiday weekend the cops are going to be after anyone in a cool boat. One time I throttled down the Southwind about 1000 ft from the ramp and the brain surgeon Sutter Co Cop tired to accuse me of being less than 200 ft. I argued the point to no avail for a while and finally said sorry. No ticket.
Last Labor day was pulled in for a safety check on the way back into Verona which was an excuse to check my sobriety. They didn't give a shit about my throwable or my fire extinquisher.
I told them I had nothing to drink all day and they didn't believe me. They kept asking me questions about where we were, did we have fun, just to see if I was slurring my words. I finally asked in a curt voice "are we done here"?. They got irritated with that and let me go without a breathalyzer test.
I'll be somewhere on the River this Sunday, probably Verona.

I was there too and went through the same check up. "We seen

feet bullshit on me too. How do they judge 200 feet. I'm going to

your boat to shore. If there is isn't such a tool we to invent one.

Thanks!!!
We launch out of Whiskey Slough, but if you wanna get "close" you can launch out of Tower Park. That should be close enough.....Hope that helps.:D ;)

PE,
Launch at Tiki Lagoon. About 1/2 mile from Lost Isle. Good camp site also. http://www.tikimarina.com/
Calm watter all the way there, short 5 mph.

I second the tiki launch for a flat bottom. You dont even have to cross the main channel. And you could paddle back to tiki if you were too drunk:eek:

We take a v-drive flattie to lost isle a couple of times each year. If Tiki Lagoon is full, which has happened, Windmill Cove is also a good launch spot. It is on the main channel toward Stockton from the Isle. Very close, almost as close as Tiki, but w/ a better bar and live rock n roll on weekends. Just keep your eyes open in the main channel for big rollers. We've never had a problem. We have put in @ Tower Park, it's a ways for a flattie when the water is rough. We have 2 9 gallon tanks for capacity

We come from Fresno, so from I-5 and Highway 4 in Stockton, go west on Highway 4 approx 8-10 miles, make a right (north) on Inland Drive. At 3-4 miles the road makes a 90 degree turn to left and become McDonald Rd. Maybe 1 mile and make a right (north) on Holt Rd. Follow this till it t's at the levee on the main channel. Make a right on levee road and Windmill is a mile or two ahead of you. Road stops at the Cove. Fun bar and a cheap launch fee. Sounds hard to find but its not. Hope this helps.
