I have seen them in concert and they were pretty good. Still trying to pump it out :)
They still sound pretty good. Anybody else doing the Bird? lol
Just saw the audience and they all seem to be white...lol
I partied many a night to all the old skool funkateers. Brings back a lot of good/bad memories

Ahhhh...Someone else knows them :) Their biggest hit was The Bird...How about Jerk Out, 777-9311, Cool, Wild & Loose :). I went to an old funk concert about 4 years ago and they were one of the acts. They put it all out there. Prince pushed out a lot of bands out of MN in the late 70's and 80's. How about Jimmy Jam?
Shiela E has turned to religion pretty hard these days. Seems like she regrets all the shit that used to go on around them?
Remember Jessie Johnson? Bass player.......

In my 40s Nuff said. I play bass, I own 2 6 string bass guitars and a couple of nice 4 stringers. I play in a show band that does fairs and casino ballroom shows from time to time, tribute to soul music and motown. I have my own 16 channel digital recroding setup at home.
I was in an alternative rock band with a female lead singer a few years back (late 90s). It was cool, we opened shows for some 80s stalwarts like Warrant and Great White. The egos finally got stupid and I just lost interest.

I am surprised you never heard of Morris Day and The Time. Prince backed them and got them started. I would consider them a kind of funk-pop band with a lot of cool thrown in :). No motown sound but they never would had their sound without the Motown influence. They were/are a true band with lots of entertainment value.

Honestly until I started playing in the soul band I had never played in a band with horns. Then I get in a band with 6 horns...... wow...... whodda thunk!
I don't know I kind of lost interest in new stuff a few years back, about the time of the ego attack by all the other band members in the alt rock band.
Whe I dropped it, it fell apart because i was the only one that could manage everything, provide the practice space, do all the internet marketing, recording engineering, and on and on. The others were just stars.. in their own minds. Kinda broke me of the whole music scene for a while.

Ever heard Morris day's "Color of Success" - big old school club hit.
What about Rockwell - "Somebody's Watching Me", with Michael Jackson on back up vocals (no pun intended). MJ on backup vocals? Yeah......Rockwell is Barry Gordy's son!
Finally a topic I know something about!

The best song Slave had in my opinion is "Weak at the Knees".
Any of you guys every heard of Blowfly? If you know that one you get bonus "hood" points :)

I'm old school enough to remember early '70's dances. A cover band that could play 3 sets of Tower of Power, Cold Blood, Sly & the Family Stone, Santana, War and Malo could make decent money playing for the Catholic high schools...
Dr. Eagle - remember the Zasu Pitts MO and their spin-off Big Bang Beat ? Or do you play for the other big band whose name escapes me right now ?
When I think of Morris Day and the Time - I remember "the Bird"
and, like Schiada96, Jerome with the mirror. Still cracks me up when I watch "Purple Rain"

Sorry 'bout multiple posts - but I just remembered the best
old-school funk concert I ever saw.
Tower of Power (the best version - with Lenny Williams singing,
Lenny Pickett on sax, and Chester Thompson on keyboards).
Opening act was Rufus w/ Chaka Khan. At the Circle Star Theatre in San Carlos.
Good thing TOP was playing for the homeboys that night. Rufus and CK set the bar very high that night...
