I have owned Mustangs for the last 10 years . I had an 89 5.0 that would turn you every which way but loose , a 94 GT that was a nice car but had a weak auto trans(thanks Ford) and a 2000 that supposedly has the new improved 4.6 v-8. It sounds good and I like the lines of the car but the engine performance is really lacking. The v-6 in my opinion is the better engine. I want my 5.0 back. v-drive

When we bought the car, we first test drove an automatic with a V6. That thing was a pig. I then test drove the V6 with a 5 speed. I was surprised at how well it did. So we ended up buying the V6 with a 5 speed. It doesn't have the same "get up" as the V8, but it does pretty good. Plus, it's cheaper on insurance. If you're interested, you can take a test drive.

5.0s are the only ones to get IMO. Unless, you get a newer Cobra or Mach 1. Here is a pic of my friends 93 LX Notch 5 speed.
http://werd.com/lx/rims/IMG_4005.jpg
It weighs 2,750lbs. With just exhaust and ignition it ran a 14.0 @98 1/4, with slicks he was able to pull down 1.7 60's and 13.6 @101mph. He paid a little more cause notchs are supposed to be the best, since they are lighter, handle better and faster. I am trying to find one of these beat so I can drag it, or I might just get a hatchback and do the 93 Cobra kit on it, god I love those cars. But as fas as the V6 Mustangs, they are nice, but I already have 2 V6's that are more luxurious, roomier and faster. (Nissan Maximas)
Have you tried posting this on autotrader?

When I bought my 5.0 it was like being set free. From the time I started it I was always in a state of awe. They are just so awesome to drive. They are a little hard on clutches though.

Yeah, the tq is great. My friend has a tremec t5550 with FMS clutch and adjustable clutch cable which is adjust full stiff in order to barely tap the clutch to engage. Focker is stiff...
you up for Elsinore Monday? I tried emailing you during the week, but got a bounce back.

Sorry Nubbs, I just have a soft spot for the 5.0. I was actually trieing to say that if I had to buy the new one again I would buy the V-6 Because the 4.6 is such a let down.....v-drive

I have a good buddy who is looking to sell his. It is an ex-cop car, and paint is black and rough, but has a Vortech on it and an auto. I think it is an 89 5.0 notch LX. It has pretty nice aluminum wheels on it, and new rubber.
In any case, if you are actually interested, I will get some pics and get them to you. I don't know the actual price, but as I recall it is a reasonable $5500 or so.

True story: Broke my 88 GT 5.0 speedo cable on Rice Road. Stupid speedo went to 85 mph, I had it in 5th gear with my foot on the floor for what seemed like forever, the speedo needle bouncing off the peg then "ping"! No more speedo.
I extrapolated from the tach (and some simple math) I was going 135 to 137 mph, and that's too damn fast.
Car starts floating at that speed.
Plus, at the peak of my speed run, I passed a CHP coming the other way. I figured if he was going 120, in a minute we were 4 miles apart... I just kept the hammer down and ran with it.
Of course, for any LEOs on here, I made this story up, the statute of limitations has expired, and I really think the new BMW cop bikes are cool.
Thanks

No no, the CHP car was going the opposite direction, I have no idea how fast he was travelling, I was the dumb shit hauling ass.
Of course this was back in 88 or 89, so you know I was 15 years smarter then  ;)
That was just the start of an epic weekend, I'll tell you...
Thanks

I BS you not. That is the great thing about Maximas, such sleepers nobody believes it, especially when I take out V8 stangs.
http://dmontzmax.maximaclubca.com/MaximaVideo's/Matt93se155mph.mpg
Here is a 155mph vid. So far the fastest guy was 167mph when he was arrested and taken to jail. He put on wider diameter tires to help the gearing to stretch it out.
Let me know if you want to see some 500+whp Maximas. :D

I would believe that, if the limiter was removed. They used the same engine as the Z car just slightly different gears. The Z cars were limited to 155 and when removed, they could reach about 165.

hehe, Kilr is right.
CA-STU no worries, nobody knows and that is the beauty. I own two Maximas, both ungoverned. Usually stock 5 speeds run low 15 second 1/4 miles, with bolt ons they usually run mid 14 second 1/4s with occasional freaks and good drivers doing high 13s low 14s. They have turbo and supercharger kits available that can put them in the 12s/13s pretty easy. I have been a Maxima owner for a LONG time. I post at www.maxima.org the fastest Maxima to date is high 11s on the street. :)
