Saw this walking around today at the boat drags. Kinda beat up but old school through and through!! Talked to the guys and they said it orginally had a 392 fuel motor in it. Now it has a 331 Hemi.
It sounded real good also.

That set-up could definately pre-date the IHBA. More like NDBA.
Got any more pics Mike? Did you ever find any K's ?

Very cool old school, but I would not get in it and mash, afraid it would fall apart out there.:)

That hull was in pretty good shape other than looking pretty ratty.

I remember that boat with a 392 on fuel, a record holder I believe, definetly old school, a legend and hero to many. Should have left the number on the side - 007

Over the course of the years, several people have laid claim to owning an original Panic Mouse. The difficult part is proving it.
If that could be done...I think it would be quite valuable (even un-restored).

K-Flat, how did the "Dragstar" do? (hey, if I posted this in Just Jets no one would know what I was Talkin' about)

My neighbor had one. I redid the name on it. in 74 I think. First flat I ever drove.

Mike Brendell could probably help with a visiual id on an original PM not sure about James , that boat looks to be before Langes days at Hondo but yes it would be hard to prove and could be worth a few bucks also . Still would be fun to restore a original Panic Mouse :)

V Drive Video there wasnt much left of most of the Panic Mouse boats when Ray was done with them , a few pieces floating around so a decent original would be a good find . ;)

First time out he was thrown in the mod eliminator class. He didn't know what it would do.

There was a guy at Red Rock last year swearing his boat was a Panic Mouse. Unfortunately he left the boat at home (midwest). I told him that if he could prove it to take it to the Barret Jackson auction in Phx. Who knows what the high rollers might shell out for that thing?!!

Wow. You caught me on camera, I'm in the red shirt and black shorts in your one photos. Were you the guy that came up with the kid and asked him 'what farmers barn he found that in"? The guys were really nice and tried hard. I could fire it when I went over there but they usually had a hard time on thier own. The motor did sound good when it ran, but needs a few adjustments..and a good cleaning!

Kurtis 500 what is the story on it is , it a Panic Mouse ? Where did it come from ?

Kindsvater Flat

Kurtis 500..... Yep that was me and the kid. After some inquiry and a few phone calls I found out that this boat is a 73 DiMarco. I also made another phone call to find what hull the Panic Mouse was and they said Hondo quicker than quick.
I was wondering if it would even start with the amount of fuel you poured in. I could not believe it. I never saw it on the water. How did it do?

Mike, I saw it on the water once on Saturday afternoon. It kind of idled/coughed its way down track but towards the finish line it was clearing out and sounding better. Did he get another chance to run it on Sunday?

Yeah, it took a lot of fuel. Mine is the same way, I put a big shot in just to get it to fire. I dont think they ever went down the track. They never could figure out how to get it to fire on thier own. It was a Dimarco. It was also the original metal flake with no old racing marks on it.
Oldsquirt, I think you saw the Miss SuperGlide that was going to do an exhibition run and never got going. He said he fouled the plugs from sitting soo long. Really nice guy and won some championships back in the day. I even borrowed a pill from him since I forgot all mine at home. I'm not sure if he got going on Sunday. That was a not-so-good day for us so we split early. Both of us went out first round. Doug with a red light and I broke my airshifter solenoid. Still got it in gear but too late .911 reaction and 2 dead cylinders. Managed a 10.4 but couldn't run him down in time. Got a good lesson on how to warm an alcohol motor by Butch Blair. The motor wont pick up the dead cylinders without enough heat in the motor ahead of time. Good thing he wants a set of my valve covers for his early hemi;) We stumbled over ourselves pretty bad before first round getting ready..embarrasing....shouldn't have stayed up so late the night before.
Oh well, you live and learn. A 1900 mile round trip lesson..ouch

If it's been confirmed that it is a '73 DiMarco then it's out. She sure looks awfully close Mr. Caselli's ride in 1969 though. Note tach placement and colors. I know this boat was not flipped, so, it COULD still be aound. I did pick up in a couple of the pictures posted, that the installation for it's day, reflected a top notch drag racing set up, rails with lightening holes were cutting edge. Who knows???????

It was a DiMarco. It had the name plate on the dash and didn't resemble any of Hondo's early boats. I have seen a few and have a 73 Hondo, this one looked nothing like it. The metal flake was a dulled silver color also.

Being a Di Marco as stated then it would not look like a Hondo as you said it would look like a Kurtis since they came out of the same mold . ;)

This boat is so old school and beat, it would be the perfect restoration for me. I'd love a v-drive with this much history!

It belongs there with the Miss SuperGlide for sure. Both of those were old school for sure. I even talked to Bob (Ms. SuperGlide) about some nostalgia exhibition racing. I told him I would put my blown 392 with the 4 port hilborn and original scoop in the shovel nose and race him for fun. They would be matching boats almost. Would be fun to think about an old school class like PCE for boats that look and run with the same parts as 30+ years ago.
