My wife bought one of these for me for Christmas and lemme tell ya', this thing rocks. Not only does it pick up radar from the front, it also has a sensor that picks up radar from behind.
Last time we left Parker to head home on Rice Road, just past Vidal Junction, the detector went nuts, I slowed down, and about a mile and half up the road was a San Berdo Sheriff sitting way off the road behind some big bushes and scrub. If the detector hadn't gone off, I would have been popped.
Another time just past Chiriaco Summit, the detecor went off, so I slowed down from 85 to 70, the signal strength slowly got stronger and stronger, I couldn't see anything in front of me or behind me. The guy behind me got impatient and blasted past me and out pops out a CHP back about 4 cars back and nails this guy. I feel the hefty price of $400 has already been repaid in fines and frustration I would have had.
Just passing on some good 411.

I have a 9 band Cobra unit. It works well and has saved me some agony several times. I have it powered by my day-night mirror so it's mounted up high, almost completely between the mirror and the windshield. Very low profile.

A friend has one and loves it on his trips between Dallas and Houston.
He jokingly tells me that it lets him know when a cop is 4 miles up the road at Shiplys dipping his donut in his coffee. :D

The BCT-12 is a good unit. the highway Patroll alarm picks up whats called the mobile extender frequency it's the radio repeater in the patroll cars that extend the range of the hand held radios.
theres always pros and cons with everything .
pros being they don't have to be running radar to receive activity. and longer range than radar.
cons- not all states use them and it's illegal in some states to run a scanner in your vehicle which could result to more trouble than the ticket you're trying to avoid . just a heads up for ya .
oh yes , the Valentine is the shiznit :D
heres a website in case youre interested
Scanner and radar detector laws (http://www.afn.org/~afn09444/scanlaws/)

I have one of those too. All band radar and "laser". It has saved my ass many times. It saved my butt on the highway from Baker to Sheridan while on my way to Pahrump to visit my son and his family. Wide open road and whadda you know... there's a CHP. I got plenty of warning fortunately.
The only time it won't do you much good is with radar guns if they haven't used it just before you get there. I was in Los Alamitos the other day and bang 0 to full signal for just a second. Fortunately I wasn't going over the speed limit by much so I slowed down immediately.

Heres a little info about radars and detectors.
Radar is accurate at approximately 1/2 to 3/4 miles depending on line of sight. Radar detectors can "hear" approximately 5 miles, again depending on line of sight. Its similar to a gun shot from a rifle. The bullet (.22) can only travel about a mile and a half, but you can hear the blast miles away.

I have had one a year and a half. No tickets!!!!!
Yea you have to be careful if there are no other vehicles on the road, b/c they have to turn the radar on for it to work.
I got a BS ticket from a chickenshit trooper and ordered one the next day. No regrets!!!!!
Over hills, around curves, best I have ever seen! This same guy (Valentine) developed the Escort for Cincinnati Microwave decades ago, left them and started his own company (from what I understand).
One of the best parts is you can send it in to have it "tuned up" every couple of years!

So somebody has to tell me.....what's the difference between a speeder using a radar detector to dodge a ticket and a bank robber spray painting a security camera to get away? Nothing. Radar detectors are for idiots who don't know how to drive, IMO. If you wanna speed ,fine. If you get caught, stand up like a man and pay the price. Only cowards use devices like these to hide illegal activity.

Most speeders don't point guns at people with the intent to kill them and/or steal their money.
90% of the population speeds probably do a degree to warrant a ticket at some point. Doesn't make them bank robber category. And spray painting security cameras with intent to steal and possibly kill isn't legal. Many radar dectectors are legal.
You asked for the difference. That is it. :D

I have been using the V-1 for years. It is absolutely awsome but, instant on radar can still get me. Does this BCT-12 detect the presence of an officer when he has instant on radar but has it turned off? If so, I know what I'm getting for fathers day. Where do I get one????? By the way, I'm not a big time speeder I just like knowing when friendly's are around......you know.....in case I need help with anything :-).

the bct 12 monitors the radio communications .
It's a scanner . that has an aleart whenever it is within a vicinity of a patroll car that is running a mobile extender ( Repeater for hand held radios)
so they dont have to be running radar for this thing to aleart .
production for the BCT12 has been discontinued
however you may be able to find one at one of the larger truck plazas . Petro/ Flying J / unocal76 / ect .
.
heres one on E-bay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40980&item=5702255546&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)
the bct8 is still in production and does pretty much the same thing and then some.
Bearcat bct8 (http://www.uniden.com/store/itemdetail.cfm?item=B-BCT8&tabid=2)
and if you wat to really ride the border of legal illegal counter measures heres a laser/radar scrambler / Jammer with a one year ticket rebate guarentee :p

My sentiments exactly. I guess I am a coward also. But putting me in the same class as a bank robber is insane, or should I say moronic!
The main reason I got mine is the chickenshit cops that set up speed traps. I have seen them give tickets for 26 in a 25mph zone. Yes, this is not really fair, now is it? The speedometer might be off that much. I use it as protection from the legal “crooks” that take money from the innocent to bankroll their small “Barney Phife” operations.
I know a couple of troopers here and they don’t stop people unless they are doing over 80 mph on the interstate highway. I rarely go over 78. So I guess the trooper that let speeders go is just as guilty as the speeders themselves and should be ticketed....
You voting for Kerry? LOL!:o

Valentine radar detectors are unlike any other detectors regarding the way it works. All other radar detectors only show the intensity level of the radar, and that's all, others also show you which band cops are using (X, K, Ka, or laser). However, there are many features on any radar detector to consider valentine the king compared to other detectors. The first outstanding feature that puts radar detector over all known is that it has arrows which show where the cop is. This helpful feature saved great amounts of money for this type of radar detector owners. This function works great with the radar detector's ability to detect multiple cop.
The indicator (LED) shows you where cop or cops are and whether it is cops or something else. If there are multiple signals, then the arrow flashes at the direction at which it feels is more of a threat. It saves drivers from different speed traps, which cops provoke. radar indicates whether it is X, K, Ka, or Laser band. Unlike many others, valentine radar detector comprehands all known type of radars and prevents you from road violation. As one of our consumers noticed "There's no other radar detector like the Valentine One. The Valentine One will always be king. Over other detectors, it offers more features, 360 degree protection, it doesn't jam when there's more than one cop, and it's so effective! I can safely say that this is one of the only true perfections in the world. It's very rare to find something so perfect...".

IMO, the robbers are the cops! They are stealing your hard earned money. Fines, increased insurance rates.
So what do city, county, & state goverments do when thay do not have enough fiscal responsability, they start writting more tickets!
I view this from the business term, it genorates more revenue for branch of police enforcement, whether it be city, county, or state.
They should use this man power to enforce drug laws, immigration, corruption & all types of blackmarket stuff to that would legally increase the revenue of money for the state!

this is about as stealthy as you can get without actually transmitting RF. which would open you up to violating FCC rules and regulation concerning frequency allocation and spectrum usage which would open yourself up to allot of undesired criminal charges . least of which would be felony class (10 years , $10,000 .00 or both) !
What about laser you say ? isn't that light and not radio? yes and no , It's all part of the electromagnetic spectrum . from DC to daylight and beyond . anything above ultra sonic is considered RF .
then again if your referring to having your vehicle painted with radar absorbing paint and the glass re angled as to not reflect Laser and microwaves , then never mind . I'll put my aluminum foil hat back on and go play outside. :p
C. into the radio thing T.

Rocky Mountain Jammers are snake oil. Read the tests in Road&Track, Car&Driver or any place else on the web. I run a V1 and have been happy so far.

they do work it may not be a effective as the reviewers would like. Then again if Rocky Mountain ran a $5,000.00 add the magazines would be hard pressed to give it a bad review.:p
I don't use any of them myself and have never had a speeding ticket. I figure if your in that big of hurry maybe you should have left sooner :D

yep allot of the public services are going digital
some of the smaller towns still use speech inversion
which sounds warbled and incoherent.
heres a simple program that will decode it if you have the radio run through the sound card on your computer.
.
