After a bunch of beer one night a friend mine talked about replacing his swim platform and the cost was gonna be 1500 to 1800 for a tubular one, so i said what the hell Ill make you one. So below is what i ended up making for his 30ft checkmate. Also thanks to those on here that persuaded me to go anodized, it has yet to be done but soon. Also i engraved his valve covers and made lids for the K&N air cleaners. They have yet to be polished but you get the idea. After all this polishing i dont think i will be able to masterbate for a month!
Let me know what ya think.

We had it out in the sun most of day the other week drilling the holes in it for the L brackets and it never even got warm.
Thanks for the compliments so far!

RD :)
Haas 60x30 cnc. The part was 90 inches long, I had run 2/3rds of it and slide it to get the rest. It barely cleared the openings on the end of the enclosed machine in the Y axis........about .005 it was so close that i actully slid a feeler gauge to check. It weighed 228 lbs when i started now its around 70. The underneath side is all pocketed out.

Damn, that is beautifull. I'd hate to know what that would cost if someone were to pay to have made.

I am a machinist for a large outfit here in columbus so I doubt i will make any more and if i did starting price would be around 3000. Its a pain in the ass in any season:D I had around 40 hrs in making that stuff and i will probably end up with another 30 more in the polishing. The funny thing is, this isnt gonna cost my buddy no more than the price of gas and a some beer. He did pay for the material though.
And as JordanPaulk stated i like to be paid:wink:

It is a sweet job!! It is always good to have good friends... I work for a company that makes custom irrigation and vineyard tractors... very small business... and we seem to take care of our customers... like you do your friends... but ours is on a bigger scale... but it is all worth it in the end, "we " and I am sure you do to come out on the top in the end... Good friends and customers are worth it... Here is a vineyard tractor we make!!!!

Yes, that is the grape/wine grape harvesting module... but the module comes out and we and do many more things... such as spraying, pre pruning, ripping, wire lifting, etc... this Agri-Trac Tractor belong to EJ Gallo, we also have sold tractors to Kendall Jackson, Meridian Vineyards, and a few other growers... there is only about 15 made... that is how small we are... Hope to see you at Naci one of these years...

You could probably just do a clear powder coat over it and be done.

Water will make it slippery too. Quality workmanship should look just as beautiful as that piece, very nice work C.Fisher.
.
C.Fisher,
That light blue car in the background looks a bit like a Falcon, am I right?

VERY nice work!
I would not anodize those parts. You will be MUCH happier if you have them powder coated in a "candy" color. I anodized a set of 95" side panels for my sandrail and still kick myself in the a$$ over it.

I almost did powder coat but what i did not like about it was it looked as if would have a texture of oarnge peel and it would feel in some of the engraving that i did.
On the other hand the anodize will be transparent of the alum finish. I would imagine that if we are not happy with the anodize we could later go to a powder coat. If I am wrong please corect me.
Heres another deal. Anodize will be in the 2 - 400 range, powder coat was gonna be in the 800 range.

Very nice,
What alloy did you use, 2024? Anodize is a better choice from a corrosion stand point, but I think powder coat is more durable. After some heavy use, scratches may develop.
The good news is that later on you can re-work and powder coat but they have to grit blast the surface to make it accept the powder coat.

That was what I was thinking (as a 2nd guess) although I didn't say it. I don't remember the Falcon having that bodyline just above the bumper.
