When I moved to Hawaii in '84 all our household goods (furniture, dishes, etc.) were sent over in containers.
I was down at the Coast Guard base the day they were supposed to come in, and saw a container ship limping into port with the bottom 3 rows of containers smashed down like pancakes. My heart sank when I saw the condition of almost half the shipment.
Seems they hit some really bad weather and the load shifted something fierce.
Luckily that wasn't my ship, but it sure had me worried unti they delivered my stuff, safe and sound.l

When I worked on the container crane systems at Matson in Los Angeles Harbor in 1979 I saw all kinds of that crap... daily. Not so serious as the ship sinking, and no nukes off the loading dock, but containers dropped, trucks wrecked by container handling equipment, 7 brand new porsches rolled over by a straddle truck, containers dropped in the water... it was a thrill a minute... well at least weekly!
