I have a 2003 f350 with the 6.0 diesel. Today on the way home from the river it was blowing out black smoke the whole way home. Has anybody else had this type of problem.

Check your intercooler hoses, you might have a leak.
No turbo boost and too much fuel (as a result of no boost) might be causing it as well...computer problem.
Check you air filter, is it clogged at all? Air filter box (if not open element filter) not clogged with anything?
You did fill it with diesel last time, didn't you? (Not meaning to insult you, but it's happened)
Do you have a boost gauge? Is it reading normally if you do?

Your truck thinks it's an Oldsmobile Diesel.

Check the oil level. Is it WAY up?Bad injector, turbo is out or a few other ideas.Did it lose power?Im betting its the turbo.

I took it into the dealer today. They gave me the same story it just needed an oil change. Ok at 4500 miles. This thing holds 18 quarts of oil and the manual says every 7500. I think its an injection problem and their to lazy to fix it right.

I asked about the oil to see if maybe it was making oil.If an injector seal goes it will usually start to fill the crankcase with fuel, making the oil height on the dipstick go up.14qts +filter on oil change. If it was pouring out alot of black smoke all the time, then i would say the VGT(Turbo)went out.Is really down on power?Does it still have the turbo whine when you get on it?

That's funny. I'll just stick with my 2 Duramaxes instead. The only thing they smoke are Fords and Dodges. :D

The fuel injectors in the 6.0 PSD use oil pressure to operate. According to the manual, oil changes are recommended at 4,500 miles because of this. As the oil viscosity thins, the injector performance is adversely affected.
How many miles did you have on your oil before the change?

We can eliminate that if ya like. We'll go from 60 on on the highway. I only need 6th for that. :)
