I just picked up a XLT 2000 Excursion w/ the V-10 (87,000 miles). I dont know much about this truck other that its very clean & should tow well (I hope).
Anybody running one & how does it pull (my boat is a Spectra 24, weight about 8000 lbs loaded)? I think the gears are 373's, should I go to 411's.

Did your truck come with those gears (if not what was the cost to replace) & what size tires are you running?
Mine has a lift (I think 4 inches) on it and I think 33's (Desert Duelers). I would like to get 35's.
Thanks,
Brent

SPECTRABRENT, I,ve got the same vehicle 01 excusion with v-10. Have had it a couple of years and it,s a great tow vehicle.I tow my 27'Ultra shadow no problem.
I am also a ford tech and can give you a couple of suggestions.
I have replaced at least a hundred cylinder heads due to spark plugs blowing out and taking the threads with them.do yourself a favor and replace the plugs, even if the last owner says he already did it.It's about a $3,000.00 dollar repair to replace a cylinder head, parts and labor.flush trans, coolant, oil, transfer case if 4x4 and service rear diff with syn and friction modifier.fuel filter every 10-15k.then keep on reg maint and it will last a long time.
I've got at least 87k and still going strong.something is wrong with my odometer so I'm not sure of miles:D

Shadow,
Thanks for the info., I will be getting all of the work done that you have recomended. What should I pay to have the plugs changed? The service guy at the Ford dealer says $400.00 WTF, thats sure is alot for 10 spark plugs.
With the amount of miles (87000), what oil do you recomend that I run?
Thanks,
Brent

Don't know what thier labor rate is i would guess 75-80 per hr.
Plugs 1.0-1.5 hrs
diff service 1.0 hrs
coolant service/flush 1.0 hrs
trans service with filter and drain converter or flush 1.5 hrs
fuel filter 0.5 hrs
I use 5-20 motorcraft oil, somme 00,s recomend 5-30.look on your oil fill cap it will say 5-20 if not use 5-30.thats when they switched.stick with motorcraft oil and recomended viscosity.even if they charge you $10 per plug for platniums that only $100 in parts.ask to see the labor book,or computer where they get thier times from.

I would think it is more than enough.

it like that from the dealer, it was an option for the 4:30
37 inch tires with an 8 inch lift
