I'm interested in a '66 Stevens flat, but I'll be the first to admit, I don't know flats. It has a Ford FE in it, but has C4Ae heads, so if the heads and block match, it's not a 428.
Is the deck on a Stevens prone to cracking? Any other things I should know?

I have a Stevens Brosure (I cant spell) from the 1960's. Let me know if want it copied.
Also, JOe @ JOes Tooling worked for Stevens in the 1960's.

If this Stevens is designed like mine the deck is a seperate part that is set on and mine has a small crack all the way around. Is this one you are talking about a 17 ft????

The cracks I'm talking about are on the top of the deck. Stress cracks or like someone walked on the deck :eek!:

Look on the block in between the cylinders, there should be a casting number, if you can get me that I can look it up in my book.

I know where there`s an older model boat that I`m sure is a Stevens, its been in a building for more than 10 years and the boat is solid with no stress cracks, its on a well built tandem trailer and the engine is a 396 chevy. I know the man who owns it personally and the boat could be bought at a real good price.
It wouldn`t take much effort to put it in the water and go.
If anyone might be interested I can set up a deal on the complete package. The boat is in west Tenn. RCM

Is the deck on a Stevens prone to cracking? Any other things I should know? Whats the suffix letter, C4AE-? Could be from a 427. Check the block just above the pan rail for the cross bolts, there would be 3 on each side of the block if it is a 427. Find the block casting number and someone should be able to tell you what the block is.
