The Lakers (management) is CATERING to Kobe. They're caving in and willing to do ANYTHING for him, anything to keep him. He played like shite in the finals and here's his reward:
1. Over $20,000,000 A YEAR for
2. 7 years
3. Dump Phil Jackson
4. Dump Shaq
5. Whatever else he wants
He's a spoiled, egotistical, punk who may end up in jail for years (but I doubt it). He's younger than Shaq so the team is willing to give him any and everything if he'll stay.
In true athlete-of-the-new-millenium style, Kobe's response is, I'm a free agent, I'm gonna test the waters, I wanna see who comes to me, I wanna see what they'll offer me, I want to be the King of the franchise!
In case you don't know:
1. The Lakers can pay Kobe more than any other team
2. The Lakers can offer him one year more than any other team
And Kobe still wants to "test the waters of free agency." Even more incredible...
The Lakers could end up without Phil, Shaq, AND Kobe! All because they're caving in and offering Kobe whatever he wants. Shaq wants out because he sees that the Lakers management wants the younger of the two, Kobe. And they're not even hiding the fact that they don't care about Shaq - they want Kobe.
Unbelievable. But there's even a cherry on top of the cherry on top of this story. There is a chance that the Lakers could be without Phil, Shaq, and Kobe...AND Kobe might not play for anyone - he could have even played the last NBA game of his life. His next uniform could be provided by the Penitentiary. :eek:

I'm not sure what the definition of suck is. But if suck = making it to the finals 4 out of 5 years and winning 3 strait championships, I'd hate to know what great would be defined as. THey have beaten the best teams in the NBA consistently for years including the Spurs, Kings, Trailblazers, etc.
Bottom line is Shaq wanted Phil back. Phil ain't coming back. He is also 33 and wants a multiyear extension to his existing contract. Laker are worried about his age and don't wanna shell out most of the salary cap for one player. So they will likely trade him for 2 or 3 high quality players.
Since Kobe is the best player in the NBA, why wouldn't the Lakers want him back? He's only 25 and has many good years left in him if he is found innocent which I personally believe he is (but an idiot for cheating on his wife).
