Found a big arch that would normally be under water. Picture doesn't do size justice.

We could have made it through this one with a couple inches to spare but stopped. I have to keep in mind that I'm packin 31' and if it doesn't open up on the other side we are backin all the way out. Had to back out a ways as it was.

The water in this slot was from 40 to over 100 feet deep. If you like the way your boat sounds you have to hear it in here.

Always wanted to roll some of the big rocks of the hills that look as they would just need a little shove WRONG. 99% of the things wont budge. Now I know and will save the effort.

So whats the story on the water level? Is it going to be brought back up?Why is it down so far.Drought?

DEEZ NUTTS
06-20-2004, 07:56 PM
Drought. They say if we dont get big moisture in the next 2 years we are in trouble. Lets see what happens first. Still over 400' at the dam and lower areas. If it does go wrong I'm buyin up big cabin cruisers cheap and selling them across the country.

Were the beaches ok?
I found at Lake Mead that the new beaches were muddy up to your knees.
We use to go into little tiny canyons in our 19ft Sea Ray. My job was to use the oar to push off the rock if we got too close.
Don't know if we will be doing this with the 26tf .....
Thanks for the pics!:D

Next lake up the river from Mead. It starts in northern AZ and about 80% of it is in Utah.

About 9-10 hours from Riverside towing to Page, AZ which is the closest and most crowded area. The Bullfrog, Halls Crossing areas are much less crowded but are about 14-15 hours I guess.

where was this beach - we're headed up there the 7th of July till the 16th. I think we're gonna try a camp on the upriver side of gunsight. Hopefully, there will be some there. We camped there last year and found that we were in the shade by 3 each afternoon...here's our beach....

Summerlove, this was Kane wash. 3 canyons up or east of Gunsight butte. You cannont get into Gunsight anymore. Lots of beaches between Gunsight butte and the wall that separates from Last chance canyon. It has been busy in this area as there are not many beaches up to that point. Try Padre canyon first, stay to the left or west side as you go in. Good beach not too far in with a good cliff face to block afternoon sun. For more privacy stay to the right or east and go back in farther. A sand peninsula with one side exposed to the bay the other a cliff wall with morning shade. Get yourself one of the laminated maps with all the fish on them at the marina. They are far more descriptive that the freebee. I wish I brought mine home to give you more exact info. At the rate I'm going, I'm gonna see you.

Rainbow bridge is still the same except for the fact that there is no water beneath it. You have to walk a long way to even see it. Not like the good ol days when you could just drive up to it.

What is Lone Rock Beach like?
I know the water is really low, I am worried that the beaches will be totally gross like the Lake Mead sink up to your knees in mud beaches.
Anyone?
;)

No water in Gunsight bay? That's amazing! I can't believe this area is all dried up! I'd love to see a pic of that today...

On this picture, we were camped at about the "i" in Gunsight Point on the north(or east) side of the point. I like the pic of Kane wash you posted earlier, so I'm definitely going to check that out.

Summerlove, your spot is still there. I have seen a houseboat in that area a few times. Don't know condition of the beach though. If you drew a line on the map shown from the point of Gunsight Butte strait down to that island in the bay and then to the left it is all dirt. You must boat up to Padre Butte and then double back across the bay to get to your spot. No more short cuts anywhere.
Debbolas, I have not seen Lone Rock since I took pictures of it awhile ago. The Lake is up about 4' since then so the sand should be good.

WOW - can we do the Anazasi rain dance now???? I remember using the gunsight "cut" a few years ago, like 98 and 99! I can't wait to see that!

Summerlove, no new news. I had to take last weekend off and wont make it for the 4th. I did see that the lake is down about a foot from the last time I was there. Launch at Wahweap to be safe. Good chance I will be wet on your weekend. I will look for you in your spot and area. Listen for Summerlove on the VHF ch16

DogHouse
07-08-2004, 07:08 PM
It's been a couple years since I've been there. Last time we camped in Oak Bay (??) just past Rainbow. Had a sandy island all to ourselves. Water was only down about 50-60 ft at the time, now it's much lower and I'm not sure what to expect. We're open to pretty much anything, no real agenda as long as we can find a nice beach. We'll launch mid-morning on Saturday after breakfast in Page. Hopefully there's still a dock I can tie up to at Wahweap while I park the truck. 28 Kitty Cat can cover a lot of water in a hurry so who knows where we'll end up! Unfortunately I don't have a VHF. What colors are your Formula?

This is really a guess, but I'll say no later than 10am, launched and ready to roll. What time are you heading out? If I don't see you at the launch ramp or if I'm late, I'll cruise up near Gunsight and see if you or Summerlove are around.

DEEZ NUTTS, were you up at Wahweep last year around this time? I remember talking to a Formula owner on the ramp next to the lodge about the mufflers on his boat. Could that be you? :)
