I had my boat serviced at Shockwave in May and they did a tune up, changed all my filters/fluids and so on. I have hit the 20 hour mark since that service and am wondering if I should change the oil in my motor/drive as a precaution. Others have told me that 20 hours is excessive since the oil in my motor is still clean when I pull the dip stick. What would you suggest I do?
My boat is a 99 Shockwave Step Skier, with the 7.4 Mercruiser and a Bravo I. I have 198 hours and my driving habbits are pretty mellow but I do a fair amount of water skiing behind her.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Frank

Its not a bad idea but 20 hours really isn't that much. I change my drive and engine oil every 30 hours.

Frank...Basically every 50 hours is when you service the boat. Of course after your initial 20 which you are past :)

It normally goes first 20 hours..then at 50 hours then at 100 hours. I would say wait at least another 15/20 hours. BUt I could be wrong I am a girl you know;)

I sent him a PM and he sent me one back right away but the site won't open it up for me. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to try and read it.......

I was told it's the first 20hour, then every 50 (meaning 70 total would be the next, then 120, etc...).
RC and several others do it more often. 20 is pretty light though. I do mine about 30-40 apart.
If you're doing it yourself, it's not like it costs that much though.

It won't hurt to change out the fluids. I usually do it twice per season, regardless of hours (or lack of).
Stay on top of your impeller. Every other season, the same for your water separating filter, inline fuel filter before the motor. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor at discretion - and stay with factory specs.

If you start to modify your engine. I would do it every 20... I do mine about once a month..
