Info on Catalina Ski Race

I plan on going to watch the Catalina Ski Race this saturday from my boat. Could anyone tell where is the best place in the bay to do this and what time should I launch from Daves.

Best place to watch is right at the Queens Gate opening, just inside the breakwater. They start at the little islands right off the shoreline in Long Beach. Start time is 8:00 am, and there will be tons of boats out there. By the time they hit the breakwater opening, their up to a pretty good speed. As soon as the the last of the skiers go by, head back to the finish line at the Coast Hotel, just past the Queen Mary and drop anchor and wait for the finish. Pour some bloody mary's and have a great time.
PS: I used to launch at the ramp in Huntington Harbor. Short ride out of the harbor made it nice. This is one thing I'm gonna miss about selling my 34' Magic. I don't think I'll take the Top Cat in the Ocean. I'll be watching it from the shoreline this year.:frown:

I will pull my head out my azz and answer you completly.
I would launch and putt out to the inside of Queens Gate at the break water. Watch for BOTH waves of skiers leave then haul azz over to Long Beach side of the channel across from the Queen Mary. I like to anchor near the aft midships so we can watch the final turn and watch the thumbs fly.

As long as it's not raining, it's a good day for boating on the ocean :cool:
Try to get on the water around 7:00 and putt around to the Queen Mary. There will be 100+ boats milling around. At about 8:00 the racers will head over to the beach area for the start at 8:30. I'll probably watch the start from outside the break, see who comes out first. After the start it will be time for a little play-play ... making myself available for a friendly ass spanking outside the break if anyone is willing to try and give one :D
We'll head back in the break and mill across from the Queen Mary about 30-40 minutes after the start to see the leaders come in. If the water is like last weekend, the first skiers will be coming in around 50-55 minutes after the start.
Look for me ... I'll be there

I think the best place to watch on foot is at the end of the bike path that goes by the dock at Parkers. Walk, skate or bike to the end and you'll get the best view of the start.

If you're walking, the best place to see the start is on the stern of the queen. Then for the finish, walk over to the West Coaster and stand on the finish line. There is an inaginary straight line from the sidewalk across the water.

Thanks .... it's not the biggest and baddest on the water, but I manage to hold my own. I'm really pleased with the 525's ... low maintenance ... 87 oct ... closed cooling for the ocean .. and STOCK Merc.

Good thing you got a carbon fiber race hatch, the extra weight of the stock one might have slowed you down alittle bit, and your gonna need it.
All the other V guys are always using the corian counter, and generator excuse, at least you stripped yours out. Whats the use of a cabin anyway, just too much shit to clean.
Hopefully your V-Bottom rolls out as hard as your mouth does, cause im gonna be putting my sticks down, and the only thing your gonna be seeing is my roost getting further and further away. I am even going to give you alittle bit of an advantage since im running my spare props, my normal five blades are alittle destroyed from my lest trip, guess I was on the gas alittle to hard then too.

When the props are this broken, there's no fixin them. I got some Herings on order, but there about 4 weeks out. It sucks big time. She will still run 118 with the smaller props but she is ringed out on rpms.

The worst part is, I never even hit anything. They broke under acceleration, BS if you ask me. No more shitty Hydromotive Props on my boat. There just not worth the aggravation. That was the third set, you would think I would learn from my mistakes. Guess Not!!!!!

Its looking like a mixed swell running 2-3 with 1-2 foot wind chop in the afternoon. The reports are always higher then it really is so it should be like lake pacifica out there. 3-4 wind chop, god I love that stuff, you just get out on top and put the sticks down.
Are you really running 525's, Im gonna call BS on the blue motors. No matter what on the run to Catalina, we will all stay together hopefully, if something happens, its kinda nice to have other people there to help you.
