Great timing with the refilling of Owens Lake for the first time in 94 years.

Really? Is there any truth to this statement?
If so, people can say goodbye to owen's valley respiratory problems caused by the dust storms that pick up nasty microbes that love the human lung?

Yep, and Mono Lake as well.(so they claim)
A huge colossal project to restore them is underway.
In addition, a quote from their PR:
"Finally, the City’s environmental efforts in the Eastern Sierra Nevada have been productive. Today, projects are moving forward to address air quality problems at Owens Lake, while the Mono Lake ecosystem is healthier than it’s been in nearly 50 years. Moreover, the Lower Owens River Project is proceeding to establish a warm-water fishery in a 60-mile portion of a previously dried river terrain. Other ongoing enhancement and mitigation projects continue as part of the City’s commitment to the environment of the area from which most of the City’s imported water supplies originate."

I think that's a great idea. The thieves at the MWD have been robbing the owens valley for about 100 years. Los Angeles should have never been allowed to get as big as it has. Heck the community I live in has its own 100% self sufficient water supply and we have all the water we need since last year and all the late storms that we have had as of late.

By drawing off the water before it filled the lakes LA city was able to get water with less sulphur content, and other reasons as well.
Restoring the once beautiful lakes will be really nice for the area.
It's an incredable size project, one of the biggest in the nation I'm told by Hells Angel Steve who's been working it.
It's recieved little or no press, probably to avoid medling by all the different groups with all kinds of issues with it.
Time will tell, and they should be awsum looking when filled.
Wonder how it will effect the land values?

Some cool history on owens lake is that it used to have big steam driven paddle boats that used to take ore from the mines on the east side of the lake. It was also an extremely popular recreation lake area to miners and settlers of the Owens valley, rivaling that of lake tahoe in popularity. That lake used to be 80 feet deep at its deepest point.
This is probably what Owens lake used to look like. This lake is in a very similar perdicament in Nevada.
