Go to Norton's web site and look up the virus name and solution...good luck...sometimes those virus' are a major pain in the butt! :(

If it's the same virus I got awhile back he is never going to recover from it. Do dozens of windows (all say "cannot find server") pop up so multitudinous the computer can't keep up? I had that and ended up erasing my harddrive, reformatting and starting all over. (Including reinstalling software.) The computer still doesn't work the same. I took it to a shop and they couldn't find the virus although they think it came in via email. Good luck. For now...shut the computer down and do not connect to the internet if you have to use it.

mike, until you get some real advice, try this... if you don't already have adaware download it to your pc then put it on a disc and load it on your kids pc ...it might catch a registry change that's messing with your internet settings...

Man,we just went thru this...I update my norton antivirus every week.....it scans and doesn't find any virus but when I went to the internet we would get dozens of pop ups that would not close...I would usually have to reboot the pc to get it to work.
A friend had the same problem and had us download "Spybot"..it found 170 files infected with adware etc....The worst one is something called "adgoblin"...not really sure if I got rid of it but my internet connection is alot better than it was 2 weeks ago...only get a few pop ups now...

That's possible, I haven't had a problem with any viruses or spyware of any kind since I bought PC Cillin 2004. Nothing has managed to penetrate.
It's worth a try.

All I'm saying is, if it's the same virus I had, McAfee nor Norton caught it. Let a pro help you. I wish I had waited instead of trying to overcome it myself. The more you try...the worse it get's.

The virus program I have has a firewall that detects suspicious contact with the computer and advises the user to stop alll incoming internet traffic. It has only tripped about 10 times total since I have been using it. I think it works pretty well, but the only way to know for sure with spyware is to get a spyware detector...

I use Spybot Search and Destroy. I have no idea how good it is? Everytime I do a search it finds justclick or firstclick or something like that? Every once in awhile one called advertising.com shows up too. Pop ups, spy ware and viruses. I can't believe this stuff is legal. Pretty soon we're going to have to wear a helmet when we drive a convertible but they still let these internet criminals slide.

Ad aware and Spybot are good, but they still don't deep clean everything. One that I use that does a real good job is
Spyhunter v1.1.29
It's not a freeware program but if you have the time and are computer savvy enough to manually clean all the spyware and malware it finds it does a great job. When yo install this program you can run it to find everything, the only catch is if you want it to clean everything automatically, you have to pay for a license. If you go line by line of what it finds you can clean all files, registry entries, cookies, etc on your own because it will tell you exactly where each thing is hidden. You should be cofortable with going into your registry though because you don't want to just start deleting stuff!
Good luck.

go to cnet.com do a search for Bazooka, download it, scan, it will find the adware and give you instructions on how to remove it. more then likely you either have gator or webshopping or another adware that is causing non stop pop ups to appear. most spyware won't find it, so use the bazooka to find it, click whatever it finds on the right side of the screen, and follow the removal instructions.

My brothers comp. was doing the same thing. Spybot found the problem. It was something along the lines of "adgoblin", but that wasn't the exact name of it. A windows update has kept it from coming back.

Also, try to cleanup your startup files. Click start, run, and type in "msconfig" and hit enter. A menu will appear by magic that allows you to adjust the startup items that automatically load on powerup.
click the start up tab, check or un check the desired startup files. You can undo this, so you wont permenantly screw anything up. play with it until you get it right. This will help with some aspects of your problem, and the fewer startup files the faster your computer will go.

ok here is what you do first (if is windows xp disable the system restore bye going to my computer then system then system restore click on the box that says turn it off)then unplug the internet conection via the phone or cat5 cable then start the computer up in safe mode to do this hit f8 a few times while the system is booting up then run all your virus scans and adware removers this will help due to the fact that some files canot be scanned while in normal mode and if the system restore is enabled ..i personally like spybots to remove all the shit that screws with the configurations try that it should help then i would recomend someone build a virus scanner that will pick up all viruses since there isnt one out there that does i have 5 diffrent ones installed and i still get hit with atleast 10 a day but i guess that is expected with what i do ;)

Adware won't stop this virus. Go to Symantec.com and take a look usually they will have a way to get rid of the virus. But, it sounds like you will have to re format:(
