I just bought a new chevrolet suburban Z71. In my excitement to purchase it, I forgot to check out the gears in the differential. I have the 4.10 and want the 3.73. How difficult is it to exchange the gears and does anyone have any idea how much it will cost? Thanks....

Is the Z71 4wheel drive? If so you have maybe 1500 bucks in gears there. If not maybe around 7-800. This is just an idea you may want to call around to some of the 4x shops in your hood to find out what they would charge.

Just put bigger wheels and tires on it and it will effectively get ya to the same place ratio wise. :D

$1500 for a decent shop to do it.

If you plan on towing back and forth to the river or plan on going with larger tires at any point - I would stick with the 4.10's.
There will not be any major noticeable difference in gas mileage by going to the 3.73's - you will only see about a 300 rpm drop at the most.

I wouldn't re-gear. Like Jordy said just go up to a bigger tire size. The 4.10s are the better gear for towing. You can't just change the rear you have to do both. It will void your warranty unless you have the dealer do the work and the dealer would probably charge you $3,000. Don't worry just drive it and get new tires.
