well thats news to me...
actually just about any boat will porpoise at some speed. you can either speed up or slow down, it may stop. Lake conditions can cause porpoising (bouncing) Damn wakeboard Boats. do you have a Place Diverter? it really helps.

Got a 1978 20' Nordic/BBC/Dominator/PD last summer. Pretty solid (heavy) hull. With PD in nuetral, the boat wanted to porpoise between 3200 and 4000 rpms, but I could minimize it with the PD. This spring, I put on a PD Droop/ride plate. Nearly eliminated the porpoising tendencies with only driver aboard, but it still wanted to bounce with driver and 3-4 passengers at about 3600 rpms. However, at 4000+ rpms tale end raises and there is no more porpoising regardless of passengers or PD setting.

We have an 18.5 1975 Nordic Bubbledeck w/place diverter. Boat doesnt really like rough water and will porpoise a little, with an adjustment to the diverter the bounce goes away. But on smooth water, I get no porpoise at all. You really need to go with a diverter for better performance.

Since it sounds like you dont have a motor, go Big Block.

I have the same problem and I have no place diverter. Since I have become old and just pull Grandchildren around with it, I rotated the 7 degree wedge 180 and the problem went away. The ride also became smoother in a slight chop but I lost about 5mph off the top end. Since it is not the fastest on the lake anyway, I am happy with the results. However, I would assume you would be happier with the diverter. Good luck and have fun.

I'm thinking the weight of Boat verses Horsepower & Torque.
I always thought with a Jet its Torque you need, but others say its Horsepower. Either way it takes a Big Block...
or a Small Block at 7.000 rpms...

My backup engine is for sale for cheap. It is a 476 ci BBC (454 + .100 over). It has 12:1 CR Forged Pistons, 990 Heads Ported by Tim Morgan, SS Valves, Roller Rockers, Crane Solid Lift cam, 4 Bolt Main, GM Forged Steel Crank/crossdrilled/nitrited, "Quiet" Gear Drive, MSD Coil/Pro Billet Distributor/6AL Box, Taylor Wires, Bassett Headers w/water injection, Weiand Tunnel Ram for 2-4150 Carbs (Port Matched), Dooley Oil Pan, etc etc and Much more. This is complete from Pan to Tunnel Ram. Throw on your carbs and run it. It pushed a 18' Jet Boat with a stock pump to consistent 75mph runs with a SINGLE TR and 830 Carb! I have ran it with a dual 750 carb setup also and it seemed to run even faster/better, but no official MPH. This motor is VERY Reliable and turnkey ready (After adding carbs). Offered for sale for $3500.00 Email me at JimP@pritek.net or PM me here if interested. Here's a pic of it with the old Single carb Tunnel Ram (the 75 mph version and that was WITHOUT the nitrous- I NEVER Ran Nitrous through this motor although it was setup to at one point in time) I also have a extra set of BBC Plates and would throw those in if needed (Came out of a Nordic Tunnel).

I also have a stock 454 Recently pulled out of a running vehicle, but it was getting tired. Will probably need new rings and bearings. Unknown yet if it is a 2 or 4 Bolt Main as I have not dropped the oil pan yet. Block says High Performance but casting number shows it could be a 2 or 4 bolt main. It has Oval port heads. Complete from Pan to Carb (No headers though), $1000.00 OBO. Again, PM me or email me at JimP@Pritek.net if interested.

No, not at this moment but I'm always getting more BBC stuff. I will be getting another set of heads pretty quick and I'll sell the set of Oval Port heads on the stock 454 mentioned above, with the stock valves, springs, etc complete ready to bolt on. If ya are interested in those, tell me what you'll give for them and I may take them off today and shipp them to ya;)

MY 460 pushes the Nordic at 68 MPH when the wedge is set in the correct position. The engine is basically stock @ ..030 over and runs with a 850 cfm Holly. No goodies on the boat either.
