I am looking at a 03 Quad Cab. Really like the truck.
Low miles, right color, power goodies.
But, What about the 4.7 V-8 ???
Anybody else have one??
I dont plan on pulling anything other then the ski boat or the flattie.
I am considering the mileage.
Yes, I know get a Hemi. But this deal is workable.
Still looking. Need some input.
Thanks

I had the 4.7 in my Durango 4x4. Its a good strong motor but lacks torque. It was OK pulling my 21 Lavey but it would tach 4800 on the big grades to maintain 65 towing. I would say way underpowered for a quad-cab truck. The motor likes to rev and is fun to drive in a mid-size like the Durango.

Thanks OldLavey,
I am going out tonight afterwork and look some more.
The truck seems to have plenty of pep.
But like you said. Torque could be an issue.

If your trying to stay in the small displacement motors for mileage, you might take a look at the Toyota Tundra V8. I have a 2000 4X4 V8 with 130K miles on it. Still runs like its brand new. I pull a 5500 pound rig with it and it does fine. 3800-3900 rpm up all the so cal grades in 2nd gear at 55. If your just pulling a smaller 19-21 foot boat, you will barely feel it back there with the iForce V8.
I've been consistently getting 17-18 mpg non towing if I'm not in the throttle too heavy. 17mpg at 75-80mph non towing. I got about 12-13 towing a 21 foot boat. I get about 10 towing the bigger boat

Friend of mine owns the exact rig you describe, 03 Quad Cab 4x4, tows a 23 foot boat no problem.
A little sluggish off the line, but once you get rolling, no problems.
Good Luck
