NorCal, Rocket-J and I are planning on going to Berryessa on the following weekend (17th & 18th). If you aren't doing anything that weekend and want to go back there, it would be great to hook up with you.

I would lover to, but I am already going to the Delta. Tinsley Island, St. Francis Yacht Club Patry. If you are interested you are welcome as well. It gets pretty wild there.
It woudl be great to catch up with you again and to meet Rocket-J.
Hope you had a nive 4th in Shasta! How was it?

Glad to hear that Berryessa is still full. We had a great time at Shasta. The weather was perfect (mid to high 90's all week). Not too many hot boats though to play with but we still had fun (and I didn't break any parts). :D The lake level is dropping fast though. That will probably be my last trip to Shasta for this season. :frown:
Have fun at the yacht club party. Sounds like fun. Shameless Kitty said he might go to Berryessa this weekend to play with his new 26' Howard cat that he bought from hulshot. You might run into him up there this weekend.

We were at Berryessa this past Saturday, lake level is just fine. A bunch of us are heading up to Don Pedro this coming weekend for our annual Dam to Bridge Run. I might get back to Berryessa on the 18th and then up to Oroville for the 24th for another annual deal.............so many lakes with very little time.

Well, if anyone is out at Berryessa flag me down and we'll have a cold one. I have the family going so I won't be hanging under the bridge...
Here is my boat!

I guess it is going to be quite this weekend at Berryessa.

NorCal, are you staying overnight some place on the lake this weekend? We tried to book a RV spot and motel at Steele Park for the weekend of the 17th, but they are already booked up. Spanish Flat is also booked up for that weekend.
We were thinking of going to Berryessa also for the Labor Day weekend but found out that Steele Park is already booked up.:yuk:
Anyone have any other suggestions on RV, tent or motel rooms on the lake for the 7/14 and or Labor Day weekends?

Ya we are leaving tomorrow and coming home on Monday. We are camping at Pleasure Cove. We got a water site, so it shouldn't be that bad. You are welcome to join us! There are 8 of us including 4 small kids, and on ly 2 large tents so there is room.
7/14 I am doing the Delta run. Tinsly Island. Labor Day I am thinking about going to Clear Lake. There are still available sites at th estate campground.

I can't get away this weekend. I'm paying the price of going boating for the last two weekends at Shasta so have lot's of chores to catch up on around the house this weekend. :(
We did find camping sites available at Pleasure Cove for next weekend, so will be staying there and giving it a try. I thought that I had heard something about them closing but apparently that wasn't the case. If we like it, we will probably try and book labor day weekend there too.

a word of caution about Berryessa, specifically under the bridge. The sheriffs were cruising around the creek on jetskis. If they saw someone crack open a beer or were already drinking one, they were on them like flies on you know what.
They are cracking down in a major way up there for any violations they can get you for and some they want to try and get you for.
Be careful, no need to have a weekend ruined by some trigger happy jetski cops.

Robbie Racer
07-08-2004, 05:06 PM
Cas, did you notice if they were stopping anyone due to excessive exhaust noise?

QuickJet
07-08-2004, 05:47 PM
Yup, noise is why all four of my friends and I were stopped (all boats are uncapped). I ended up getting a ticket Saturday then using that ticket the rest of the weekend as a free pass. Monday I reinstalled the baffels, got the ticket signed off and I'm good to go. 10 bucks (cost of fix it ticket) is a cheap price to pay in order to sound awsome and have my boat running at it's best. :D

Cas

Keith,
Quickjet answered better than I could but from what I noticed, most of the sheriffs were up at the bridge area. I did notice at least one Sheriff's boat at each of the marinas but they didn't seem to be bothering anyone....that I saw.
The sheriff that was hanging out at Steele Park was doing just that, hanging out. As we were pulling our boats out, about a 32' Scarab with twin blower motors was pulling out. As soon as he passed the 5 mph bouy, off he went with pretty obvious open headers, sheriff didn't move. I think it's a mood thing

That was last weekend...The 4th of July... To be expected at Berryessa, that's why I stay away on those weekends. I supose it will be much mellower this weekend. (hope):D

The sheriffs have been cruising jetskis up there for years. I'm sure that on holiday weekends law enforcment presence is higher and more visible, but they are there all the time. Make sure the driver is not consuming while hanging out at the bridge. The LE has also been known to watch from the parking area with binoculars and radio down to the water patrols....
Keith and NorCal, I see you both are camping at Pleasure Cove. A word to the wise, not all "waterfront" campsites will be accessible by you "big boat" guys. If your spots are too far into the cove(closer to the resort entrance) the water gets too narrow and too shallow for anything bigger than a small jet. Maybe someday they will dredge out the end of the cove.....

QJ, Cas, thanks for the additional info on noise enforcement at Berryessa. If NorCalCat gets a ticket this weekend, then I had better find some mufflers before next weekend. :D
Craig, I was planning on just keeping the boat in my tent site at night and launching at their launch ramp in the mornings. Do you think that would work? I think Al will rent a slip to keep his boat in at night since there probably wouldn't be enough room in his site with his motor home.
Thanks again,
Keith

I've got my Pleasure Cove map right in front of me. Tell me what sites you're in and I can give you a better idea. For the most part you shouldn't have a problem with a boat in your site, but there are a few not so good spots......

Berryessa 7/23 & 7/24. possibly next weekend too. either way pull up alongside at beer cove.
Did I see you guys at last years V-drive event at Putah creek? or was that someone else?

Robbie Racer

Yup, that was us at the PCR V-drive event last fall. Were you there with your Daytona? I would have thought I would have remembered your boat if I had seen it there. We went to John Rossi's event at PCR earlier this year too. We plan to swing by the next V-drive event at PCR this fall too on the weekend of Sept. 18th. We will be staying at Steele Park with the LBBA folks instead of the PCR motel this time.
We are going to the Bridge to Bridge event in Sacramento on the weekend of 7/23-7/24, otherwise I would try to hook up with you guys at Berryessa.

Well, I will never return to Lake Berryessa to camp! Boatmaster, you were 100% correct. You heard the term Lake Lice, what about Lake Maggots. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. Without too much details, there were gangs (multiple) in the campsite we were staying at, blasting the much inappropriate music with all the colorful language. There were kids running around repeating the music, they were fighting, and everything else you can think of. The campsite security could not settle them down so the local Sheriff was called in after they decided to light off an M 1000. It went on and on. They were escorted out of the cam grounds at about 1:00 am. All this going on with our kids sleeping or trying to sleep in the tent.
All I have to say is I have never seen anything like this in my life. At a few points we were worried there was going to be ducking bullets, NO exaggeration.
What happened to the good old days when you could go camping with your family and have a good time. Not have to worry about your safety?

Dave C
07-13-2004, 08:59 AM
RR,
I was in my old Cougar 22 MTR at last year's V-drive event. We were parked next to a 24 Daytona party cat and blue/red 21 Daytona with 1471 blower!
I am going this year too. Where do we find out about John Rossi's events?
Maybe we should make a reservation at SP on 9/18?
I missed the earlier event because I didn' t have a boat. (got the daytona on 5/28/04)
We will see you one of these days.

Dace C,
Thanks for the info, but I will go to Berryessa as a day lake only, or houseboat. Never will I take my family there to camp! NEVER AGAIN!
There is no reason to even try it again, that is how bad it was.

I stopped going to those campsites years ago. They suck.
S.P is much different but you need an R.V.

Robbie Racer

NorCal, which place were you camping at that you had these problems? I agree with Dave in that Steele Park is a nice place to stay (either RV or motel) if you can get in. They are booked up for this weekend or I would be staying there.
Dave, okay I remember your Cougar and you guys hanging out with the Daytona party cat and the 21' Daytona with the blower motor. I think that you guys were always the last ones off the lake after the V-drive guys made there "just before dark" passes. I used to be on John Rossi's email list but since I changed emails last year, I'm not on the list any longer. I just heard about it by word of mouth at the Ming NJBA races this year. That would be great if you could get a reservation at SP for the 9/18 weekend. In addition to the V-drive event at PCR (hosted by Marti & Cheri), Cas and the LBBA folks will also be staying that weekend at SP. I will be tenting it at a RV site reserved by my buddy Rocket-J (24' HTM cat). Hope to see you then.

NorCal,
3 weeks ago I called Tower Park to add a campsite to the 45 we already had for our annual get together in Aug. The gal on the phone asked if the person was going to be in an RV, nope, they'll be in tents. She then informed me that there is no longer any tent camping allowed at Tower Park so we had to cancel and go elsewhere. It didn't matter that I had reserved them a year in advance and they were 90% paid for.
The reason was because of the gangs that were there over the Memorial Day weekend. At one point, the Sherriff's dept had 75% of it's local force tied up in one way or another with the goings on there.
As you say, it's an absolute shame that the innocent are getting screwed because of the antics of some.
As others have said, Steele Park is a real good place to go so long as you have an RV or stay in the motel. You can tent camp providing there's an RV on the site though.

Rocket-J and I had a great time at Berryessa last weekend. Unfortunately blown carrera aka Shameless Kitty was having problems with his new 26' Howard and was getting towed in by the time we arrived just after lunch time on Saturday. Ken, did you find out what the problem was. Since it would start but not run for long, it might be a clogged fuel filter.
Brian, I have attached a picture of the glory hole that I took on Saturday. The water level looks to be about 5 feet below the opening from what we can tell from the distance we had to stay away from it. Overall the water level of the lake is better than any lake that I have seen in No. Calif. recently.
I had an opportunity to race a guy from Riverside with a 29' Force cat with a unblown 598" dry sump motor. He passed Rocket J and me while we were cruising along around 50 in the rough part of the lake. It took me awhile to run him down as his boat was handling the rough water better than mine. Darn stereo broke loose from the mounting brackets again. :( I think he was running real close to 100 mph.
The boat cops were cool and didn't hassle either Rocket J or me on noise. We didn't have any problems at Pleasure Cove with unruly guests but I probably won't stay there again. It cost $24 per night for a tent site that is in a dusty area with not enough room to get my boat in and out of. Next time it's Steele Park for me.
