Okay here is the question. I thought I had an 11 quart oil pan. A friend of mine comes over and says he has the exact same one in his boat and its a 14 quart oil pan. I have been driving this boat for a long time with no problems YET! Any of you quys think it has done any damage. And if I put 14 quarts in and it is an 11 quart what whould happen if anything.

Jim , you don't want to overfill an oil pan. Just leads to foaming of the oil, which is a bad thing. On the other hand, underfilling a 14 qt by a few quarts wont hurt you.
Perhaps a description of the pan would help.

If you have not had any problems, then I would just continue to do as you have been. You dont want to overfill the pan, that can cause problems. Besides, that pan will only hold 14 quarts when its level, when its in your boat it likely wouldn't hold that much...

11 qts. is a lot of oil. You are cool. If you want to add three quarts make damn sure that your pan is a 14qt.

does the pan have kick outs on each side or is it pretty much shaped like a block ? if it has small tanks that come out on each side, most likely near the back of the pan, it probably is a 14 qt pan. Whats up with the dipstick, what does it read ?

Yes it looks like the 14 quart! I really run this boat hard I hope with 11 quarts it wasnt starved for oil.

I don't have a dipstick. All I have is a reference to when I change the 11 quarts. I have a metal rod that I marked off . I check it every time I go out.

Wrong Pic? See an engine and 2 seats and a wheel!

look at the bottom of the engine you can see it. Its chrome and flat. Its not a good pic but you can see the outline.
