Did you notice going to Mead last week-end that the construction from Baker to Halloran summit was pretty much complete? That was the good news. Now the bad. After a couple of years of construction delays, detours, speed limits and just plane inconvience, WTF was CalTrans doing? We ended up with exactly what we had; a lane for real slow trucks, another lane for the slightly faster trucks to pass, and the left lane for all the rest of the traffic going to the lake or Las Vegas. Our gas tax dollars got us nothing but the same thing. Millions upon millions of dollars were spent, a least a cazillion lost man hours. Southbound on Tuesday AM, the construction is not complete yet and there wasn't a worker in sight...

It is called job security.
Plus, caltrans is headed by liberal pinko commie environmentalist and are not embarrassed to admit that their mission is to get "John Q. Public" out of his car.

Glastron Guy, thanks for the site. About 2 minutes after you gave me the location, I wrote them a long questinaire. Hope they respond...

Be happy you don't live up here!!! You think CalTrans works slow??? ODOT (Oregon Dept. of Trans.) has been working on a 1 mile segment of Highway 26 for over 6 years!!!! And the traffic is only a little better! We'll see when they are finished (Only God knows when that will be!)
That's over on the westside though, I don't live over there anymore. That's where the ex-Californians typically move so the traffic is horrendous! It doesn't help that Hwy 26 is only 2 lanes in each direction. It's almost slow all day long.
Sorry for the rant!!
Keith

Something you might not be aware of.
The work location the OP spoke about most likely had less than 5 Caltrans workers there. Most likely, it is a contractor doing the work and Caltrans engineers inspecting that work.
By law, Caltrans cannot do any jobs that total over $25,000.
That work must be contracted out.
Also by law, if Caltrans does a $24,999 they cannot do any other road work within one mile of that location.
