No, Most likely mom and dad moved out there to buy a big house to raise their kids around new school's and a safe enviroment.

While it's closer to the river there's nothing to do out there but get in trouble. Sex, drugs, cheap beer. I'm just speakin from experience. I never relized how different it really is untill I met my wife in AZ and 75% of all of her friends went to college. Meanwhile none of my friend's went to college. They are all in construction or other dead end situations. And all of them are from what would be considered upper middle class or at least middle class households at the time.

I drove by a piece of property in an area called Woodcrest, it is in the riverside hills..it was just short of an acre with a guest house and stables, a tree lined driveway and tennis court this place was my dream house and it was $549,000. I just moved from the 949(Ladera Ranch) to the 909...er...951(Murrieta) and its all the same, I actually like it in Murrieta better than Ladera. I'm over all the stuck-up snobbs.:yuk:

I went to Highschool out there and it sucks. I bought my first home out there and it sucked too. I drove through all of the traffic to and from work everyday and that really sucked. I moved here because it is closer to everything I like to do with exception of the river.

Area code 909 covers San Bernadino and Riverside counties a.k.a. the Inland Empire or the I.E..
Since the beginning of time, the IE was frowned upon by their huge neighbor to west, L.A. County and snubbed by their neighbor to the southwest, Orange County.
Low income, low property values, little industry, no white collar work, hot weather, heavy smog (blown east from LA), rural & farmlands and such made it not the most desirable place to live. Of course in reality, there were many nice places to live for people who didn't want the busy city or suburb life.
A couple morning DJ's (Kevin and Bean) from KROQ in Pasadena (LA) coined the "909" phrase a few years ago and it really took off. That's where the stereotyping really kicked in. I know of at least one book written about the 909 as well.
Eastern LAC and OC has since run out of buildable land and the 909 was the only place to build. There's been a housing boom from Rancho Cucamonga/Fontana (San Gabriel Mountain foothills) down the I-15 corridor through Corona to Murrietta/Temecula (North of San Diego). They're building east too.
New money came in from OC/LA people moving east. The rise in property values in OC and LA that began around 2000 gave these people gobs of cash to buy big new homes in the 909. Of course, with all the new homes being bought in the 909, those property values have gone up nicely as well. Today the 909 is very different than what it was 5 years ago. It'll continue to change now.
Yeah, there's still very rural areas and peeps who fit the 909 stereotype (seems like they relish it). It's fun for people to talk down to the 909. I'd bet 90% of the people living in the OC would still never consider moving to the 909. I have no problem with that.

The 909 is horrible I bought my house 3 yrs ago andit has tripled in value:yuk:
I grew up in Huntington bch., Yorba linda, and Anaheim hills, The difference is the attitudes. People in the 909 are alot more laid back and easy to deal with, this coming from someone who ran retail stores in both areas. The only way I would move back to the OC would be if I moved back to the beach.
By the way I do drive a big lifted truck and have a $hitload of equity in my home, not bad for living in the armpit of So-cal.

It do not matter what area code you want to give us we will always be 909. 909 is the the best place to be if you want to be scared if you happen to drive down a wrong street( oh wait thats LA COUNTY TOO). In L.A. county but still with a 909 area code...
There are alot of "oh my gawd, I broke my nail" type ladies
as well as the ones that should bring an oxygen tank around for how high their noses are.
Remember, there is a large area of L.A. county that is 909.

I too came from the "OC". Actually moved from there to San Diego, then when we could finally afford to buy our first house, there was just NO WAY we could afford to move anywhere but the 909... Temecula though so it is far from the 909 stereotype. New schools for the future kids, brand new house for 1/2 the price... can't beat that. If I could afford it, I would love to still live in San Clemente area... but we cant' for now. My friends still laugh at us for moving to the "909" though :(... They will understand someday... I hope :) I agree though, Elsinore & a few cities north definitly can be classified as the 909 although there are some pretty nice areas.
