Poll: over 40% of Canadian teens think America is "evil"
by Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor, Canada Free Press
June 30, 2004
Can West News Services, owners of several Canadian newspapers including the National Post as well as the Global Television Network commissioned a series of polls to determine how young people feel about the issues that were facing the country’s voters. Dubbed "Youth Vote 2004", the polls, sponsored by the Dominion Institute and Navigator Ltd. were taken with a view to getting more young people involved in the political process.
In one telephone poll of teens between the ages of 14 and 18, over 40 per cent of the respondents described the United States as being "evil". That number rose to 64 per cent for French Canadian youth.
This being Canada, the amount of anti-Americanism that was found is not surprising. What is significant is the high number of teens who used the word "evil" to describe our southern neighbour. As Misty Harris pointed out in her column in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, evil is usually associated with serial killers and "kids who tear the legs off baby spiders." These teens appear to equate George W. Bush and Americans with Osama bin Laden and Hitler, although it is unknown if the teens polled would describe the latter two as being evil. Whether someone who orders planes to be flown into heavily populated buildings would fit that description would make a good subject for a future poll.
The Liberal government came into power in 1993 gushing anti-Americanism. Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien’s communications director, Francoise Ducros, made headlines when she referred to President Bush as a moron. Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish was picked up on a boom microphone saying, "Damn Americans — I hate those bastards". Not only did Parrish not apologize for her remarks, but she later appeared on a television show hosted by alleged comedian Mike Bullard and laughed about the incident. Parrish played to the anti-Americanism of the youthful studio audience by saying that she couldn’t guarantee that she wouldn’t do it again.
Not only did then Prime Minister Jean Chrétien not take any action against his staff or caucus members, he himself engaged in America-bashing. The depth of his anti-Americanism surfaced shortly after the 9/11 attacks when he blamed the arrogance and greed of the West (read the United States) for those attacks.
When Paul Martin assumed office last December, the childish cheap shots ended but, if anything, anti-Americanism became stronger.
Anti-Americanism played a prominent role in the election strategy of the Liberals. Paul Martin portrayed himself as the saviour of Canadian medicare while saying that if Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada came to power they would introduce "American-style" health care. Martin was happy to take credit for cutting taxes and eliminating the deficit during the 1990s when he was Minister of Finance, but he referred to tax cuts included in the Conservative Party platform as being "American-style tax cuts". Canadians who favour lower taxes or the private delivery of health care services or smaller governments or anything similar to what is found in the United States were called "un-Canadian" by Paul Martin.
It is therefore not surprising that a high percentage of Canadian youth think that the United States is evil. Nor is it surprising that this feeling is more pronounced in Quebec where Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe said that he would rather live under the United Nations than the Stars and Stripes. The left wing Canadian political parties, aided by their supporters in the elite media don’t seem to be able to say anything positive about Canada without denigrating the United States in the process.
The poll results reflect that anti-Americanism will be solidly entrenched in future generations of Canadians. As well as listening to the propaganda espoused by their political leaders and the media, these kids have no experience with what constitutes real evil. They live in a country that much like pre-9/11 America, thinks that terrorist attacks are something that happens in other countries. And as the World War II veterans slowly die off, they have no conviction of the evil that the allies risked their lives to defeat.
With anti-Americanism playing such a prominent role in this past election campaign, it is no wonder that the United States was viewed in such a negative light.

Fuc king know it all's! ;) :D
Seriously take it with a grain of salt. All politicians are evil - they have to be- it's in the job description I thought?
If you look for evil you'll find it ... I'd rather look for the rampant goodness of people regarless what country they were born in.
Admittedly sometimes evil smacks us in the face and demands to be noticed and when it does you just deal.

I doubt that we have a inferiority complex with the USA. We are a different country and therefore have different values, expectations, culture, laws ect ect. Take a poll of teens from the USA and ask them the same stuff and I'd bet my right nut that most would ask where Canada is. :D

I've got lots of friends, current and former colleagues that are Canadian. And a finer bunch of folks I have never met!
Most in the upper middle income demographics are not too fond of the government in Canada either. Their biggest issues with the government is the socialistic structure and taxation levels.
4 of the 5 former colleagues I worked with in Seattle are now here with green cards, have bought houses and plan to obtain citizenship. 1 loves Vancouver too much and will be returning home, but with his money in US banks... when he does a semi-retirement next year.
I do take offense at the booing of US teams at Hockey games, baseball games, basketball games, and the BS that the liberal government has said about US government officials, so you have every right to be offended at this thread!

I have been through there before. It is incredibly beautiful. I also love Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond the whole metro area too some of the nicest, cleanest towns I have seen in Western North America.
That being said, I raised two kids here and they turned out pretty well. It's not so bad down here... depending on where you are of course. Regardless, one of the guys I worked with is a senior VP with Nextel now, others work for AT&T and still two other Canucks I worked with work for the same company as me.
They are all thrilled to be here where they feel that
1 they get paid what they are worth.
2 they don't get their asses taxed off (quite so bad)
But I agree... your part of the world is awesome!

I think I posted something quite similar about California myself. I think you need to visit Canada permanently... any takers up there?

As the article states, the results of this poll can be attributed to all this "War on Terror" business. Hell, we flattened Iraq without any provocation. That is pretty damn evil and it does resemble Hitler's aggression in the thirties.
Why don't you and your father KNOW ANYTHING?!
You're comparing this country (USA) freeing millions of Iraqis who lived under an oppressive and brutal dictator's regime for many years to Hitler's Germany which oppressed many countries and killed (EXTERMINATED) MILLIONS of people! WTF is wrong with the two of you?!
Germany conquered countries and oppressed them.
The US conquered Saddam Hussein's regime AND QUICKLY GAVE THEIR COUNTRY BACK TO THE MILLIONS OF LIBERATED IRAQIS!!!
Your twisted view of things sickens me and your lack of compassion and understanding of what really happened in WWII is frightening. Comparing Hitler and Germany in WWII to President Bush and our freeing of Iraq smacks of the America-hatred that your hero Michael Moore espouses to anyone who listen.
You and your daddy are spending way too much time drinking the Marxist Kool-Aid. Put the beverage down and back away from the computer you sick effer.

What country do you live in punk? Are you an American or are you from another country?
You want to know how I would feel if someone posted a thread saying Eff-You California?! Hey moron, I posted a report of more than 50% of Canadian teens who believe THIS COUNTRY is evil!
You want ME to show respect to THEM?! WTF is wrong with you? Why do I ask - clearly you and your daddy must be missing some chromosomes - are you two rednecks by any chance?

I offered to buy plane tickets out of this country for any of those who don't appreciate it. If your heart strings aren't completely pulled and the hairs don't stand up on the back of your neck every time you see the planes crashing into the WTC, you need to get the phuck out of here.
I've seen those pics at least 100 times and it still happens every time I see them. If it doesn't happen to you, I'd really think about moving somewhere that is pussy friendly, like france.

So let me get this straight. We are Hitler. We invaded Iraq. Hitler invaded other countries who were the good guys when we fought him. Hmmm.. Okay, Over 18. I have a plane ticket ready for you to join the "good guys" in Iraq so you can avoid GW Bush's Hitler-like regime. SACK UP! WALK YOUR TALK! You just equated the USA to NAZI GERMANY ASSHOLE, and I take that shyt personally. If you hate our nazi state so much LEAVE! We are the bad guys so live in IRAQ, pussy! The U.S. is the new Nazi and Iraq is the new U.S.A. so pack your bags! Are you gonna puss out now you Anti-American piece of trash?
What is your reasoning for staying in our Nazi country? I hate to agree with Jordy, but I'll stand next to him as we walk your traitorous ass down the ramp onto the plane to Iraq so you can be safe from our oppressive regime and be welcomed into the freedom of the middle east! Name the time and place, I'll show up with a ticket. Hell ,maybe Jordy and I can split the cost. He hates me and I hate him but we both hate traitors twice as much.
It's time for you to back up your rhetoric, 18! If you don't, you'll forever be labeled as a coward on this board. I already know you are, so it's time to stand up for your Anti-American garbage.

Dago, you might notice that I did not say back to france. If these morons knew what france was really like, they might not have such a uppity attitude. Of course, anyone that stupid from the get go, does not have much of a foundation to build on.
As for under 18 IQ, he is just trying to justify his cowardice. If he was to agree with what we are doing, then he has a responsibility to contribute to the effort. By bad mouthing our government, he shows his true colors-yellow with white feathers.
Historians know that if some of the early thrusts by Hitler had been met with resistance by Britain, France and others, WWII would not happen. Too many politicians tried to meet violence with words and good intentions. We have too many that have not understood what the meaning of sacrifice is. They think that life is ruined if they have to work for minimum wage, or do not get all the toys they want.

Since we support most of the world thru foreign aid we get a little testy when those of you who sit on the sidelines of life try to tell us how we ****ed up and offer NO solution to the problem.
