Hawthorne sucks. We kicked your ass repeatedly in surfing, when less than half our team was on academic probation.:D We had an unfair advantage....Trestles within skateboarding distance.

Hawthorne sucks. We kicked your ass repeatedly in surfing,
That was a different era. The demographics of HayTown changed significantly in the late '70s-early '80s. They didn't even HAVE a Swim or Polo team after about 1989.
And surfing?? Fuhgeddaboutit. More like drive-by teams, now.
We took the South Bay in our first year with a surf team. In those years the only thing in South Orange County was OC Raceway and Seizure World. Newport Harbor and Sunny Hills were the SoCal Water Polo Powers.

Started out as rocker than I turned to the punk rock scene...Wore bondage pants, dyed jeans, creepers, monkey boots. Hung out with the Family, Lads, Circle One and stayed away from the Suicidel boys and FFF.
Famous people that attended my school during my tenure, All of Cypress hill and a couple of guys from Slayer(They used to play at lunchtime how funny).
clubs I attended...Olympic gardens, shamus o briens, cathey de grande, Fenders ballroom(Later),7 seas and Florentine Gardens(for hot disco chicks), Seen many a great band, 7 seconds, Youth brigade, broken bones,GBH, black flag, Social distortion just to name a few.
Played Football started at defensive end and made honorable mention in my league. We lost every game except one that year!
Used to drive to El Segundo after school and surf till the sun went down. There was no 105 and I took Rosecrans through the hood till I got to the beach.
Really weird growing up in my hood as there were only a handful of Caucasion people. The brothers used to cross the tracks and steal our shit all the time. I remember distinctly on several occasions going into the projects(Watts) with my Crazy Whiteboy father and getting our possesions back. Can't do that now adays unless you want to get shot plus the Mexicans have took over much of that area now. Demographics are a weird thing the inner city used you be all white now its pretty much Mexican and Black(What happened why did Whitey move out??)Funny thing is I never noticed until I moved how crazy it was where I grew up.

HOLY SHIT, I'm by far the oldest guy who looks in: W'54. Yes, in those days we had a summer and winter graduating class. That was before electric typewritters (whats a typewritter, you ask?), only black & white TV, rotary dial telephones and airplaces had propellers. As a Burbank student, all our dads worked for either the movie industry (Warner Bros or Disney) or Lockheed. Saw the first test flights of the P-38 and P-51, saw a lot of crash landings in the streets of home. Only one freeway then - the Pasadena, then a short section of the Hollywood. Used to go to the beach and never drove on a freeway. How boring is this...

Some of you valley guys may remember the riots they were having in the east valley at San Fernando HS back in the mid and late seventies between black and latino students...I was suppose to go to San Fernando HS but my parents said "screw that" and sent me to catholic school instead.....
Graduated from St. Genevieve HS in Van Nuys, class of 1980.
The great thing about catholic high school is that all the girls have to wear skirts..For a leg man like me it was heaven!!
played football for 2 years, safety and linebacker..highlight of my career was running back a punt for about 20 yards against Alemany HS...I still hate that school!
then i discovered pot, girls and heavy metal and was lucky to graduate...
:D
Didnt know they had a VARISTY Football team, have they ever won a game....
Alemany LEAGUE CHAMPS 1984
