Anyone had first hand or second hand or here say experience with Lightning Tubular Jacketed Headers?
Getting ready to purchase and do not want to make a mistake.

First , what is the application , Jet V-drive I/o or what ....
I have them on my BBC Jet and love them... Sound great and perform even better... Only pain in the arse is 2 bolts that are very difficult to keep tight because of the tube size. I believe if my memory serves #1 & #8 bolts. Also you may have to do some grinding on your head bolts to get them to fit... They use a 3/8 inch thick flange... I say go for it!
I love them though ,just drain them every time you use the boat.

I had them on my old 25' Cougar MTR and they were without question the best for the buck. Teague who builds my motors actually did a Dyno comparison with my Lightnings and the CSI tubular headers, CMI big tubes made 12 more HP. Not worth the extra $3,000.
The below picture is the motor on my old boat, I ran this 1,050 HP 572 CI motor with Lightnings for over 3 years withot any troubles;
If memory serves me the owner of Lightning, Jan, is always swamped with work so be patient with him and you will find he responds better to that when you are chasing down your order.
Good Luck.

I've got a set of the "dry tailpipe" Lightnings for sale in case you're interested. They were used for a little over one season and are in good shape.

Here's the link to CP's websight with a description: Lightnings (http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.asp?product_id=310-40407).
I'm still using the transom rings so you'd have to buy new ones. I'll let them go for well under half price to anyone who's interested.

I might be intersted let me know how much and what they are for. I have a 460 ford in a jet. My mechanic keeps telling me to get them if they will work for my application you might have a taker.

The application is a standard Mercury/Bravo straight through transom setup. In my case, the transom holes were in the standard location, but my motor is a tall deck with raised exhaust ports, so the pipes didn't line up very well. That put them in a bit of a bind and made it hard to keep the slip joint between the collector and tailpipe sealed up good. With the large camshaft that I run, that caused water reversion. Depending on your application, you may need to rework the collector and/or tailpipe to make sure things are lined up nicely and the joint will stay sealed.
Thanks,
-Brian

you get what you pay for - and i would shell out another 1800. for a set ... sealed great sound great - pretty cool to the touch ( compared to wet stacks ) lol ouch - the bolds are a biatch - i ended up going to a small headed twelve point bolt and its bearable - i would suggest getting - angled valve covers - my tall ones fit - but have to take the headers off to adjust valves - ( mech roller came ) that was part of my motta failure ( me beicn lazy ) and not popping valves back every time - i only did it annually . any ways great headers :cool:

I have a set on bbf using the lightning adapters. They took a little grinding on the adapter plates to get them to fit just right but they are well worth it. Big power gains over my Hardin Marine manifolds.
