Hey all,
Anyone on this forum from Austin,
I was googling one of my favorite places and saw that Lake Austin was dry.
I looked at it a few months ago and it was blue as can be.
Do they drain the lake once in a while to do work or what.
How is the economy there. I may need to move to that area for work.
THanks

Lake Austin is fine. My uncle was running his Hallett up their 3 days ago.

Lake Austin is a constant level lake. Lake Travis is low as it always is this time of summer. Couple good rains will fill it back up. The 3 lakes above it, LBJ, Marble Falls, and Inks are constant level lakes. Lake Buchanan above that is prob a few feet low. Austin is a great place to live. Been here 10 years now. Strong economy. Not really affected by mortgage crisis. Lots of high tech, Dell, Samsung, AMD, Motorola, Freescale, etc. Lake Travis is the popular hot boat lake, even though there arent alot of hot boats compared to west coast.

They do drain Lake Austin in the winter to let cold weather freeze the algae. It is usually drained for about a month.

How long is your boating season in the Austin area?
-
March through December. Its freezes here about 2 days a year. Very mild winters. January and February are out coldest months. I sit in the deer stand in November wearing shorts and t-shirt. Very nice hill country area just west of Austin and Lake Travis area.

Looks like I will be taking a job with APD.......im already searching for the right boat. Looking at 24 Fountains, 22 Donzi's and 26 Velocitys to name a few. I know bigger would be better but I want something easily trailered and I will be on a tight budget for the first 2 years. I cant wait......until then im just Hill Country Dreamin'..............

I just moved to Austin a couple months ago, but my boat is still in PA. Once I get it here, I'll be boating as long as there is a fishing season, and even when I can't fish I'll still be on the lakes as much as possible.
