What is the conventional wisdom on pugging the oil filter bypass valve on a Gen IV BBC? I heard that they start bypassing at around 4 psi. Wouldn't this let a lot of unfiltered oil through the engine even at an idle? So if one were to defeat the bypass, what precautions should be taken?

If you do - use a good filter with an internal bypass.

RACE engine only for plugged by pass. Do not do it on anything else.

put the 30 psi bypass in. That way it will not bypass unless you are having major problems

Baldwin's and k&N's in stock here if you need. Both exlent filters.

Ok, thanks for the info. I was looking at the Baldwin specs and it has a built in 20 psi bypass. Even at that, I run around 40 psi at an idle. I guess I'll leave well enough alone for now and keep my ears open for other options.
Thanks again
