About a week I figured I would be a good guy and decided I would drop by a blood donation clinic. They had trouble finding the vein, and did a lot of poking around. So now, a week later my arm looks like this... and the area gets larger everyday. Just wondered if any doctors (or nurses) thinks this is a problem. Clearly some internal bleeding going on I figured.

Kick his ass folks. :crossx: Isn't there cheap medical in Canaduh?? :rollside:
-
What you got there is a common hematoma.
Blood is leaking from the blood vessel into the tissue around the arm. Basically a bruise.
It usually doesn't pose any major problem, unless it starts to swell and/or look like a big blood blister.
If it get's too much worse or painful, I'd see a doctor.
But from the looks of it, a little ice compress will do.
This is a new one. Medical advice from the likes of Hot Boaters. What's the matter? The local bar closed today? :crossx:

I`ve been warned about us not adopting the Canadian form of medical care, you just sold me.

Yeah, we have our crappy medicare. I went in last night to a clinic and had a turban head tell me it is no problem and to just go home. Thought i would get a second... American... opinion :)

Wife says BC is right, take his advice and if it hurts and you can't hold a beer then get it checked.

Your medical is free right?
Hows the quality? Like going to the DMV?
If ya get sick do you die?
-
Your medical is free right? If you consider half of your income "free"
Hows the quality? This was my first reason to go in the last 10 years. But I hear it sucks. Like going to the DMV? A lot more mucus.
If ya get sick do you die? naw, put you on a waiting list... dieing is their plan B.

I recommend amputation.
By the way, when you donate, make sure they sterilize a big patch on your arm. They always do a tiny dot because people don't like it but I've known several people who have contracted nasty blood infections from donation sites.
-
Hopefully no infection but looks more or less like bad bruising from all the poking like BC said. Bruises like that sometimes swell and get worse before they get better looking. Get it checked if no change soon.
-
Or you can just have it lopped off like Tom suggested.. :crossx:
-
Damn they wanted some blood from you BAD.

Someone hit a blood vessel. ITS JUST A BRUISE! Your not going to die. It will dissapate after a week. Don't overstress the arm. If you lived in a town larger than 20 people, you would have seen a real doctor. We send the diaper heads out west. They can also be used to clean up oil spills.
-
1. Free...just like living in Californiastan
2. Good when needed
3. :rollside:
4. depends how sick you are
Snoop
Cut the arm off and beat Brown over the head with it....or ice it and beat Brown with the towel head
One towel head coming up...

Live in a town of 300,000, but whatever. I got better, faster medical advice on a boating forum than from the doctor. Horray for medicare. Praise Tommy Douglas.

There are some extremely good physicians in this province but they're very few. The problem has little to do with medicare. If you don't like the socialized medicine, you can always volunteer to pay for your care. :)

Looks restored and nice.

Here's what Webmd says about common Hematomas.. (pretty much what Boatcop Alan said)
Bruises and Blood Spots Under the Skin
Home Treatment
If your bruise does not require an evaluation by a health professional, you may be able to use home treatment to help relieve pain, swelling, and stiffness.
Rest and protect a bruised area.
Ice will reduce pain and swelling. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Apply the ice or cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 or more times a day.
For the first 48 hours after an injury, avoid things that might increase swelling, such as hot showers, hot tubs, hot packs, or alcoholic beverages.
After 48 to 72 hours, if swelling is gone, apply heat and begin gentle exercise with the aid of moist heat to help restore and maintain flexibility. Some experts recommend alternating between hot and cold treatments.
Compression, or wrapping the bruised area with an elastic bandage (such as an Ace wrap), will help decrease swelling. Don't wrap it too tightly, as this can cause more swelling below the affected area. Loosen the bandage if it gets too tight. Signs that the bandage is too tight include numbness, tingling, increased pain, coolness, or swelling in the area below the bandage. Talk to your health professional if you think you need to use a wrap for longer than 48 to 72 hours; a more serious problem may be present.
Elevate the bruised area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down. Try to keep the area at or above the level of your heart to help minimize swelling.
Gently massage or rub the area to relieve pain and encourage blood flow. Do not massage the bruised area if it causes pain.
If desired, apply a natural product directly to the bruise.
Witch hazel may help heal damaged veins.
Arnica may stimulate healing.
Do not smoke or use other tobacco products. Smoking slows healing because it decreases blood supply and delays tissue repair. For more information, see the topic Quitting Tobacco Use.

Maybe it's not 300,000 ... I am not a walking, talking census. I thought I heard that recently but I have no idea of the accuracy. Not sure how they count the natives in the culverts. As for letting me pay for it.. SURE. Been to the doctor twice since I was 5 years old. I would be happy to have all my wasted taxes back. gotta be careful though or the moderators will send this into the political forum

I was like you but one day I went to the doctor and didn't get back to my house for 14 months. I was just as happy to not have to pay for that visit.

i'm not on anything like that. The nurses just poked around for about 15 minutes and must have tore some stuff up. They tried for about 10 minutes on my other arm but couldn't find anything, so moved onto this arm.
-
we paid the doc at the looney bin all we had for him to keep you there
That's not the visit I was talking about. The incident I was referring to is the time I donated blood and ended up with a nasty arm infection.

it isn't restored, just a good original 47,000 mile truck. dad bought it in the mid 70's and used it until the mid 80's and it sat until 1997 when I got it up and running again to be my first vehicle. it needed carb, ignition and brake work but nothing major. Still has the original Gulf trailblazer bias plies. It's a 196 slant 4 cylinder with a 4 speed and 4.27:1 gears.
First day I ever drove to school (can see I wasn't as good at cleaning whitewalls back then):

300,000 wasn't THAT far off... 287,000
That's the covered population of the Saskatoon Health Authority. It's a significant area.
The population of Saskatoon is about 200K, as per this site. (http://www.relocatecanada.com/saskatoon/index.html)
What's more, it's not growing. Neither is Regina. The flow of rural people into Saskatoon and Regina is just enough to keep the populations stable while people from the cities leave for other provinces.

Earlier this year, I would have loved to have them. Unfortunately, this summer I sold the 78 Fairmont that would have looked so pimp with those bad boys.
