Other than the power difference, Are the 2.5's any more reliable than the 300's? 2.5's push 280hp? and the 300's push 300hp? Any help appreciated!

Both are great motors, just each are better suited for their purposes. The 2.5's can be up to 300HP with the drag version, with apx 9000 RPM :2purples: . great for lighter boats where you dont need the extra torque of the 300's, but want the revs. The 2.5's also require pre-mixing the gas/oil, but are lighter and much smaller the the 300's also. The 300X motors are up around 330hp from what I've heard. Have had both motors, both have been very reliable..... but I dont drive them like a toggle switch either.
What are you looking at?
Of all people to listen to, Tobohomo would be the last person I would take any tyoe of advice from.
He has 300's but I dont think he even gets them up to 2k in RPM's when he actually DOES take that specturd out. :crossx:

Tobohomo doesn't have a specturd, he's got a DCLB Channel Sitter edition, in orange no less. :D :D :D
Unless you're running a hull of 1000 lbs or less, go with the 3.0l engine.
The 2.5, by the way, can put out well in excess of 300 hp without nitrous. Dyno numbers of 375~385 are relatively common.
WTF,
ARE YOU SERIOUS,
What are you buying
My boss has a 32ft fountain fishing boat he had the 300's on it.came home and took off the 300's and put the 2.5's on it and says its much better now.

lmao!!!
300's are usually much more reliable than the 2.5's since they turn less rpms which means longer motor life.
