Just came off the dyno with a new 468. Won't get into a ton of detail, but I will tell you this. 468, Pro Topline heads by Abbott Racing Heads, Super Victor, one Dominator on gas, no juice.......... 858 HP @ 7200 RPM // 696 lb/ft torque @ 5900 rpm. The heads are 24 degree Chevy design. The heads and intake were fully ported and flowed by Abbott Racing Heads. Getting a blown alky 509 ready next, then a couple of carbed, nitrous 540's with the Pro Topline heads. Hey Steelcomp, had to get back to a little R&D after hearing about yours. That's about 50 more HP than we'd ever made with a 468 with a single carb. BTW, a box stock 8896.

are the pro topline the heads that are cast in austrailia?
just curious heard about some from austrailia but couldn't remember the name

Now I know what I want for Xmas! :) Seriously Garry, thats pretty impressive from a 468. Looks like somebody is going to have a great Xmas.
-
Great job Garry!!!!! You "Da" Man!!!!
-
Hell, I was impressed. A lot of credit on this needs to go to my cylinder head guy. That's where the HP comes from. The rest of it is just a big air compressor.
-
A little more compression than Scott's engine?
Liken that torque peak. Nice work! :rollside:
-
We did a 476 earlier this year that made 828 @ 7100 and 704lb/ft of torque @ 6100. That was a PLJ legal motor. The 468 has a ton of port work done.

Garry..........Always the modest one. That is some impressive #'s.
-
Hey Gary, you better step up those Chevs or it will be ugly next year! :rollside:
-
Hey Dallas........... Ain't nothing like breaking in a newbie, especially one with a Ford. Just be ready for Test and Tune at the first Waco race and we'll see what that blue oval stuff will do. I've seen many a fella walk away with a tear in his eye. I'll even help you get it ready. Which boat are you gonna run?
-
Oh i'm just mess'n with ya Gary, I've been so busy with work i havn't even touched any of my boats. I'll most likely just be watching next year too. You know with all the crap i get for love'n the old Fords i got to jab you Chev guys once and awhile. :)
-
No problem Dallas........ The offer to help will stay on the table, just let me know.
-
All your help never goes unappreciated, Thanks for everything Gary and Merry Chistmas to you and your family.
-
Way to go Garry;
Keep those Chevy making power.

They were bought out by RHS but are still cast in New Zealand. We do like them.

Wow. I'd like to know more about the valvetrain..... :220v:
7200 RPM is screaming.
-
I like the 320's I am running , great quality and performance out of the box !
I guess if the motor comes apart for a freshen up I'll have to get them to your buddy there Garry so he can work a little magic on them
BTW thanks for the help at MF Garry ! ...so after all the measuring you did under the pump and intake ,did you find anything you were looking for ?
-
Hey rrr.... I can't believe you'd consider selling that boat. The 7200 was a typo, it was 7700. Just used good quality pieces. Ken Abbott at Abbott Racing Heads is my hero. Ken is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet in this business. He does what he says, when he says, and for the amount he said he would, something I haven't been used to. He's out in the middle of nowhere in Crane, Texas, about 35 miles south of Odessa. I was out there last week picking up our new PGJ motor. His number is 432-558-2841. Hey TJ................ That's been too long ago and I've looked at 50 others since then. We'll do it again. Enjoyed meeting and talking with you down there.

:jawdrop: :jawdrop: :D

Garry,
Congrats on your engine. Those number look pretty good for the 24 degree single four deal. Kenneth is a good guy and does some real nice work. I just dynoed a big inch small block he built for a local fellow just a few weeks ago and it to had decent numbers.
If you talk with Kenneth anytime soon tell him I passed along a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I talk to Ken 3 or 4 times a day. I'll pass it on.
-
:D :D :D
That's a stout piece, Garry. Good job! I'm glad you changed that 7200 to 7700...I was wondering about that. I'll send ya an email. Glad I could give ya a little insentive. :D
-
Sometimes that is what it takes. Your motor is exactly the reason we went after this 468 build. It is for a car and that was the RPM goal we were after. Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year.
-
Ran the motor today. Car and driver 2395#, went mid 8.50's at 155 mph at 4000' density altitude. That's a BBC style headed 468 with 1 carb on gas, no spray.
-
Hey Garry. When you say Gas is that pump gas or race fuel . ???
-
It was race fuel. Just meant that it wasn't alky.
-
Got more accurate numbers today, ran 8.72 @ 155.00 MPH and DA was 4300'. They were at Pennwell Raceway west of Odessa. We were at Red Line Raceway northeast of Dallas with my car. Don't want to talk about E.T.'s since the driver suffered from brain farts all day, but on the last pass, I let it roll through when the green came on, which killed the E.T., then hammerd it from an idle. It spun the tires and got a little sideways off the line, then I shut it down at the MPH light and went 147.54 MPH, that's an 1/8th mile track. I'll post a couple of pictures tomorrow. Feel like it would have been in the 155 to 160 range if I had done right, 4.50 to 4.60 E.T. We ran 4.54 @ 154 in our Top Sportsman car, 632 Pontiac with juice and injected alky, as a comparison.
-
I think we will head back up to Red Line this weekend. Need to detune it a little so I can get it off the line. Hasn't got a ton of tune-up in it now. They are paying a little money for fast door car, dragster, and motorcycle. If I can get it down the track, should be able to bring home a little of their money.
-
gary just drop that engine in my boat to test lol hell with the oil pan :220v: :220v:
-
Hey Ron............. Talked to JJ yesterday afternoon. He's bringing a pan this afternoon.
-
-
Hey Garry, dyno numbers aside, it sounds like that 468 is making good usable power. Good to hear. :D
-
We feel very fortunate and very proud to have hit on the combo. Not only that, the guy driving the car had never been in a race car before.
