Got this quote from Atlanta Crankshafts:
"We can stroke the cranks per your spec's for $300 each (your cores) or $400 each (our cores) plus shipping for (1) crank. For (3) cranks, the price will be $275 each (your cores) or $375 each (our cores) plus shipping. If the rod journals require widening, we will have to adjust the pricing according to the increase in width. Thank you for the opportunity to quote this job."
By the way, what's the width of the big end of a 440 rod?

Lakes, Are you looking for a stroker crank? I know of a couple of crank shops that will offset grind your crank for about the same $$$ and it won't cost you shipping.

Factory BBF rod ratios:
429=1.83
460=1.72
Mopar 440 rod w/2.375 big end can make for a 3.975 stroker crank from a std 460 crankshaft. And that crank will certainly be stronger than being turned for a 2.200 journalled chibby rod. Also, the Mopar rod is 6.760 rod length, so:
492 stroker=1.70 r/r
499 stroker=1.70 r/r
Much like 460:D
3.975 x 4.44 = 492
3.975 x 4.47 = 499 (anyone in a 500 max class?)
Bore and stroke are also increased equal proportions when compared to the stock motor.
But the SCAT-style H-beam rods for the Mopar weigh about 875 grams each (depends on which pin), whereas the SCAT-style H-beam rods for a 6.605 BBF rod weigh about 820 grams. That's a big increase of weight at 6000 rpm. I know because there was a couple of pieces of mallory metal added to my crank when I went to the 6.605 H-beam rod (from oem 460 rod). So maybe I'd need to stick to the factory 6-pac rod for weight/balance reasons and that will limit HP to about, oh...600-650 HP with a well-prepped rod.
Just kicking ideas around...I still think this would be a cool reving BBF 500 motor to have for the right application...and I think you know what that application would be.;)
