Pat, go HERE (http://www.summitracing.com/streetan...iringorder.pdf) and click "Chevy".
For what it is worth YOU can choose any one of the 8 terminals to be #1. Just have to remember which you have chosen and make sure that the rotor does point to that terminal when engine is on TDC #1.
Rotate the engine by hand until the #1 cylinder is at TDC. Put the distributor in the block, orienting it so the rotor is pointed to the wire hole you want to be number one. Just pick one of 'em. Doesn't matter.
Put the #1 plug wire in that hole. Put the rest of the wires in the successive holes in the proper firing order.
Yer done.
