Almost forgot the specs....
555c.i.
91 octane (yes, that's 91!)
and I have to say that those aren't my headers. Dave used old ones to avoid screwing up my new ceramic coated ones.
DNE and Westech Rock!

Looking good bro;) My only question is whats up with the oil pressure? That has me worried a little

The clearances are larger than normal. The crank had to be re-ground and re-heat treated. Also, the rod clearances are a little bigger than normal. Dave told me not to worry about it as it's completely normal for this engine, and won't affect reliability.
At first, I was like WTF!?!? But, everything's cool....

Diggler, Congrats on the numers, looks great. What kind of boat will the motor be goin in???? :D
-
Congrats! Looking good..... (what did I tell ya? haha...)

Congrats Diggler!
I remember when you were PMing everyone in town a couple months ago panicing about your choice. Looks like it paid off. :D So if you don't mind spillin the beans, what was your peak TQ and where did it make it? Oh and one more thing, please tell me this is going in a BIG HEAVY BOAT so I have a chance at beating one of the newer mills out of the DNE doors :D
Chris

Dirk, good numbers! You already have the engine back in the boat? What impeller did you go with?

I think your out of luck, Chris. This is the motors new home.

DOH!
I should have remembered that 19. That should move out pretty good.
Congrats,

Chris
The peak torque was somewhere over 750ft-lb, but it was before they started the recording at 5500 rpms, so i'm really not sure. I can't wait to get it out, I'm dying here and they say it's supposed to rain this weekend!!!

Ha ha! You were soooo right! Thanks for the support during the build. Spending this kind of money makes me nervous as hell!
-
Dirk, good numbers! You already have the engine back in the boat? What impeller did you go with?
I went with a Heritage Bronze impeller cut to an A/B to hit peak hp at 6500rpms. I also put the rev limiter at 6500 to avoid blowing this stinker up!
-
Congrats diggler, I told you Dave would take of you. So where you nervous on the first pull? I could'nt wait, I just wanted him to nail it :D
-
Congrats!
Looks like it's time for a Lifeline, helmet and a kill switch. Oh wait, don't you already have the helmet? :D
-
Congrats diggler, I told you Dave would take of you. So where you nervous on the first pull? I could'nt wait, I just wanted him to nail it :D
Not at all nervous, one bit! I was going, cm'on, cm'on.... pull that throttle!!! :D :D
By the end of the day, after 19 pulls, I have to admit it was getting a little tedious..

Let's just say it took the sale of the old boat, my entire tax return, and my bonus for the year. :yuk:
However, it was totally worth it! My family thinks I'm nuts! :rollside:

How many quarts of oil were you running? What size oilpan? It sounds to me that you were dry sumping the motor at high rpms. All the oil was being pumped up and very little was in the pan. That would bother me in my boat but if they said it was ok then I guess its ok. I would make him put it in writing along with a warranty  I was just curious bud. Good looking mill though;)

How much hp did they gain by tuning? 802hp on pull 19 - what was the hp on pull 1?
Brian

Just had our motor dynoed. At about 5000 rpm oile pressure was at about 60, once at about 5200, dropped to 40. Dyno was IMMEDIATELY stopped. After checking motor out, everything was great, EXCEPT the pan. Many baffles arounf the iol pump. Have replaced pan, as this was the only problem found. Am re-dynoing. I agree with 396 ways.. sounds like a problem. (posted by Performance 19) Jim

Pull #1 was 793hp. He had it almost dialed in perfectly, raw from the shop.
As to the oil psi, Dave had a long talk explaining it with me. I'm perfectly comfortable with what the engine does after this talk. thanks!

Why the side hung float bowls?? are you worried about shutting off the needle and seats on take off??
-
Is that a pair of 6109 Holleys?? What's the set-up on them??
Nice motor...good power. That boat oughta haul ass!! Congrats Diggler. :coffeycup
-
Wasn't this boat or motor for sale a while back?
What kind of power you had before. Wasn't it a high compression motor?
-
Yep, it's a pair of 6109 Holley's, 750cfm ea.
This boat was for sale last year,... I bought it in September! :D
-
Why the side hung float bowls?? are you worried about shutting off the needle and seats on take off??
The 6109's come that way. They did that so they could be used in line. :coffeycup

If that boat is wheeling long enough to drain both bowls on take off, he's got bigger problems than his float bowls ;)

I'm gonna be called out as an asshole on this, and that's fine by me. 396, exactly wtf do you think you have up on anyone second guessing the oiling system on a mill like this? Put it in writing with a warranty eh? care how to guess those little pieces of paper cost when you're making this kind of HP on pump gas? Psi and VOLUME are both factors when keeping a motor alive. Dave doesn't "settle" for mediocre on his motors and I could never see him sending something out the shop door that was setup wrong (as you are insinuating).
Further more, a good deal of the gauges out there would barely respond to the difference between 52.7 and 48.4PSI on the dial. Last but not least, in this boat, 6500RPM isn't an RPM you're going to be running accross the lake at.
If you were just asking for your own edification, swell; but it looked more like you were picking apart a nice piece. I personally don't care, but let the guy enjoy his new baby, and rest assured that Dave knows what the hell he is doing when it comes to setting up these mills ;)

what you and 396 don't seem to be understanding is that dne doesn't let an engine out the door unless it's ok, and he stands behind ALL his work. i don't mean to disrespect your opinions in any way, but when you've built all the 800+ hp engines he has over a lot of years, that have logged hundreds of hours of flogging up and down the rivers and tracks without failure, then you've developed the knowledge to know what is right and what isn't. if he says this one is good to go, it is good to go.
-
396...I kinda have to side with Chris and bp here...that was a pretty stupid comment. You clearly don't have a clue as to what's going on there. There's more experience and knowledge standing there than in most dyno rooms in the country...possibly the world. That's a nice motor, don't get me wrong, but it dosen't even scratch the surface as to what experience and professionalism stands behind it. Get it in writing...thast's a good one. :hammerhea
-
Not even insinuating there is a problem!!!! Just passing along my experience. The owner posted that it was explained in fullest detail to him and he is completely satisfied. That is great!DNE is obviously extremely talented and experienced according to Flat Broke, and others posting. I am sure the owner will be completelty satisfied and all will be great. Again, just passing along MY latest experience. Jim (Performance 19)

Digler it was good meeting you man. I was there w/ chris right after lunch you pulled up w/ that snoot. Boat looks good I wonder what it will run. Ne interest in running it ming? later

 :D
Nice engine!

ya that was prety bad my bad. fixed it

But they are being used sideways, I was told there would be issues doing that.

Hmmm lets see here... This is a public forum to discuss ideas & ask questions. I don't feel in any way that 396 steped on anybodys feet! I think he was just asking questions & voicing concerns. Apperantly a few of you are overly sensitive about Dave at DNE? Great however I don't see a valid reason to be jumping all over this gentleman about his post! I can tell you that I would be more than concerned with oil psi in that range at that rpm! Now am I ragging on Dave??? No just saying that I would not be comfortable knowing that in a real life situation when the temp starts coming up the psi starts to fall etc... Of course I am not a dyno/engine expert, just another fellow stating an "opinion". As far as brain power in 1 room that must be the opinion of another... One more thing, if those that post about their equipment don't want to hear anything negative or questionable then in all fairness just don't post! Or be confident enough in your own shiat that you don't have to become defensive when another voices "an opinion" :notam:
Finally let me say congrats to diggler & very nice looking mill. Power is outstanding as always with DNE! Good luck

I have a pair of 6109's that came off the 'Black Mamba', Ver. 1.0 that have been worked over by CP to somewhere between 810 & 815 cfm. They have been run both in-line and sideways on two different motors and performed just fine in both configurations, in both cases. Race prep'd 6109's are hard to find and almost worth their weight in gold ... Last pair I saw for sale was at this past year's World Finals here at FireBird and the guy wouldn't budge below $1,895 for them mounted on an Edlebrock Victor II-R BBC Tunnel Ram.

I would be interested in whether or not this motor would pull an a/b impellar to 6500 rpm's when the pump is fully loaded.
Looking at how fast the torque falls off in relation to the horsepower gains I would doubt that could happen.
Not saying this is not a good motor. Just that the pump absorbs so much horsepower at the higher rpm's.
I hope it reaches your expections. Please let us know.
Thanks,
Kojac.

Just had our motor dynoed.
What kind of power did that thing make, if you dont mind saying.
