I think Carl Hiaasen's books are pretty funny and off the wall!

Read all of them.
I liked the one about the bass tournament best. Also the one about the lottery ticket (Lucky Number?). He is a good author, but Tim Dorsey is a lot funnnier. In one book he goes on a rant about "King Size" and "SUper Size" at fast food drive throughs, and concludes that "King" isn't a good enough term, and his character starts yellling "Hitler-Size my fries!" .
Not very hilarious by itslef, but in context, it's a friggin' hoot.
I have also read all of Nelson DeMille, all Elmore Leonard (gets to be formulaic), all Dean Brown, Michael Crichton, Robert Parker, John LeCarre, and a s---load more authors.
When I enjoy a book, I tend to read everything that author has written,
My wife managed a bookstore when I met her.
