Thread: What's my engine alert telling me??

Does anyone have educated ideas on what a STEADY alert beep means? I've got a 2000 Cheetah Stiletto with a bone stock Mercruiser 7.4 MPI. Ww were out on the lake this weekend and the alert chirper began going off. This was at idle and stayed steady for quite a while. Oil gauge looked ok, temp gauge looked ok, nothing sounded or felt wrong. After a while it stopped and we high-tailed it back to the ramp. While idling around waiting for the trailer, it started again and would not stop so I shut the motor down. As soon as I saw the trailer I fired it up and the steady shrill continued until I got it to the trailer.
We've had the boat for about 5 months and put about 35 hours on it with flawless operation...until this continual shrill from the alert mechanism under the dash.
Anyone encountered this before & what was the issue/outcome?
    Thanks for any help!
