Thread: Hey Rexone...

    What's up with the censorship?
... but before we get into that, I've been trying to find out what a -2 AN thread is. I've spoken with a few machinists who are extremely sharp and they gave me dumb looks. The local machine supply house didn't even know what it is. They went through a few supplier catalogs and couldn't find AN threaded fittings anywhere.
Can you help me out? Is that an American name for another type of thread? Does it have other names that locals might be familiar with?
I'm trying to find pitot adapter fittings locally so I don't have to absorb shipping on such a small item but it doesn't look good so far.

I've been censoring everything in sight Tom
But before we get into that, it's a straight machine thread. I will get you the size shortly. I have a chart here somewhere. :hammerhea

    They are 5/16-24.
    Here is a chart (http://www.autoperformanceengineerin...ead_Sizes.html)
"AN" stands for Army-Navy btw. Yes I think it's an American thing. If it was a Canadian thing it would be called "Mountie thread sizes". :mix:

Let's see... response time... 9 minutes. Yeah, that's pretty good service.
    Thank you very much, Mike.
Now all I have to do is find someone who knows what SAE is.

Yep, those mounties always get their man. They must be outboard guys :shift: Sorry Tom, the thread was getting to be off topic for the Bench Racers forum so I figured that I'd better bring it back on track.

SAE is fine thread Tom. (Society of Automotive Engineers or some shit).
Means the little humpies are closer together and smaller than the USS which is course thread (humpies bigger and further apart).
It appears America really has a monopoly on all this thread nomenclature with the exception of metric which I still find a pain in the ass.
I added that chart to the gear head tech link section btw so you won't have to hunt around next time.
Have a nice time screwing everything up this weekend.

Hey! What happened to the post where Roman 1 said how great outboards are?
