Sounds like the u-joint. I'd get it serviced ASAP, because it will not be pretty if it lets go.
I was hoping one of the you experts might know what is going on, but when i do a tight turn especially at low speed, I get a loud ticking sound out of the outdrive.
Any help would be appreciated.

While you're in there change the gimball bearing. $50 for the part if you stay out of the boat shop. No metal on your drain plug and it will be one or the other.
yea get in the and grease it up , it should be greased every 50 hours ,, and just hope that it is the u joint and not ur forward gear in ur out drive,, take tha cap off ur drive and look in the and if u see metal shavings u got a broken gear
