I was hoping one of the you experts might know what is going on, but when i do a tight turn especially at low speed, I get a loud ticking sound out of the outdrive.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the u-joint. I'd get it serviced ASAP, because it will not be pretty if it lets go.

While you're in there change the gimball bearing. $50 for the part if you stay out of the boat shop. No metal on your drain plug and it will be one or the other.
